Why oh why do I still own a Stilo?

Ahhh yes, the Stilo. Nice car, fiddly to fix though - well, some of it.
It was brought home to me yesterday (whilst stuck at Liverpool airport with time to kill) that, on the whole, I don't really like most of the hire cars I've had of late.
The list in the last 12 months include Ford (Focus), Vauxhall (Astra & Insignia), Volkswagen (Golf TDI), Peugeot (308) and a Toyota whose name I forget. Arseis or something.
They were dull, very dull and just plain pants.
Yesterday I drove an Astra 1.6 Sporthatch 'thingmy' on my way back to the airport. It was claustrophbic inside and just so un-interesting, when I eventually arrived back at Aberdeen I hopped into the Stilo and bombed home. It's genuinely a nice place to be, controls are well laid out and (in tweaked form at least) pretty damn good to drive, certainly better that the Astra.
So why would I buy any of the other boxes out there that are/were the competiton?
Well, no reason that I can think of.
Which brings me to another point - what is there out there in an equivilant class that I would buy? It's not going to be from any of the manufacturers already listed, it wont be an Audi or anything from VAG. Don't fancy a Jap motor, not especially fond of the Civic, what does that leave? no...... wont be Korean or French either!

So that pretty much just leaves Fiat group cars....
'New' Bravo (let's call it Stilo II to make me happy)? Well, maybe. Jury still out on that one.
An Alfa? 147 gets chopped soon, Mito isn't my 'bag' really.
Lancia? Well, they're not coming back to RHD markets for a while - if ever.

So why do I still own a Stilo?

Well, I've spent far too much on it to see it that money getting written off in a doubtless derisory offer as a trade in.
I like it, despite a few shortcomings.

Fact is, to my mind at least, it's actually a very under-rated motor. I like being a wee bit different to the 'next' guy.
I'm an incurable Italian car fan, and maybe that's it. I still own a Stilo because, essentially, I'm a lonny.

Self diagnosis? Freud would have a field day on that one....... I'm off to lick some windows

Not a VW fan myself but the Scirocco is a nice car.. Alfa GT is probably something I would buy in petrol form, although I have heard and read quite a few bad things about the 2.2JTS... but I never do listen.

I wouldnt buy a Bravo myself. I just really arent keen on the idea of a little engine with a turbo bolted onto it in something that size, but it looks like its the way things are going.

Chap I know has a T-Jet GP (RedTJet over on FS) and it's pretty rapid with only a custom cat-back system. Was keeping up with a 156 1.9JTD on the motorway and thoroughly embarrassed RGZ in the process lol

I've got a massive list of possibles to replace RGZ with, window shopping's fun and the actual process of doing it - maybe at the tail end of next year - shall be even more fun. Have driven a 57-plate Vectra and felt much the same about the cabin. Was also pretty boring to drive, though the motor (also used in Fiats) was pretty pokey. Can't get used to a diesel though.

I also rather like my Stilo. Need more power/torque to make it properly fun and a few of the squeaks/rattles to disappear but I always get compliments on it and as has been said, it's different from the norm :)

Well their was three cars i looked at buying before i settled on the Abarth one was the Alfa 147 1.6 twin spark, and a Renault laguna 2.0 ,all three had generic problems but after looking and driving all three the fiat was a clear winner,i got rid of my Astra sxi 16v 1.8i as the electrics are crap had the fuse pannel changed twice in 8 month due to crap solder along with window motors ,the list went on
But if i had the money i would defo have the new scirocco that car is so sweet and a real head turner

Why would you want to come on here and tell people you love vw parts I for one couldnt give a toss about vw parts and they dont fit on a Stilo anyhow.
