Why oh why do I still own a Stilo?

Ahhh yes, the Stilo. Nice car, fiddly to fix though - well, some of it.
It was brought home to me yesterday (whilst stuck at Liverpool airport with time to kill) that, on the whole, I don't really like most of the hire cars I've had of late.
The list in the last 12 months include Ford (Focus), Vauxhall (Astra & Insignia), Volkswagen (Golf TDI), Peugeot (308) and a Toyota whose name I forget. Arseis or something.
They were dull, very dull and just plain pants.
Yesterday I drove an Astra 1.6 Sporthatch 'thingmy' on my way back to the airport. It was claustrophbic inside and just so un-interesting, when I eventually arrived back at Aberdeen I hopped into the Stilo and bombed home. It's genuinely a nice place to be, controls are well laid out and (in tweaked form at least) pretty damn good to drive, certainly better that the Astra.
So why would I buy any of the other boxes out there that are/were the competiton?
Well, no reason that I can think of.
Which brings me to another point - what is there out there in an equivilant class that I would buy? It's not going to be from any of the manufacturers already listed, it wont be an Audi or anything from VAG. Don't fancy a Jap motor, not especially fond of the Civic, what does that leave? no...... wont be Korean or French either!
So that pretty much just leaves Fiat group cars....
'New' Bravo (let's call it Stilo II to make me happy)? Well, maybe. Jury still out on that one.
An Alfa? 147 gets chopped soon, Mito isn't my 'bag' really.
Lancia? Well, they're not coming back to RHD markets for a while - if ever.
So why do I still own a Stilo?
Well, I've spent far too much on it to see it that money getting written off in a doubtless derisory offer as a trade in.
I like it, despite a few shortcomings.
Fact is, to my mind at least, it's actually a very under-rated motor. I like being a wee bit different to the 'next' guy.
I'm an incurable Italian car fan, and maybe that's it. I still own a Stilo because, essentially, I'm a lonny.
Self diagnosis? Freud would have a field day on that one....... I'm off to lick some windows![]()
