According to Car and Driver, customers can expect to see the new Fiat 500 Abarth in March. It will start to appear at numerous Fiat car dealerships. USA Today explains that the 1.4-liter MultiAir engine with 101 horsepower in the standard Fiat was supercharged. That made for an automobile that was 1.5 times more powerful. It gets 160 horsepower now.

There is a lot of power in just a little car with 160 horsepower. Compared with the BMW 135i, it gets better gasoline mileage and is $14,000 cheaper. The BMW 135i gets 300 horsepower while the Fiat gets 160 horsepower. Still, the Fiat has a higher weight-to-power ratio as the BMW 1 series is more than 700 pounds heavier than the Fiat. In order to teach buyers how to manage the 500 Abarth, one day of “driving school” is given with the purchase of the Abarth. Abarth comes only with a five-speed transmission, which means the typical 500 has better gasoline mileage. The car also comes with better suspension and bigger brakes and wheels.

There are other hot hatches around the price of the Fiat, but none that match the weight-to-power ratio. The Volkswagen Golf GTI and the MiniCooper S are more expensive and less powerful, having lesser weight-to-power ratios than the 500 Abarth. That said, there are small vehicles which have higher weight-to-power ratios and lower costs than the Fiat, but they are just a little bigger. The base Mazda 3 five-door has a higher weight-to-power ratio than the Fiat and starts at $20,095, such as destination fee. The same goes for the base Toyota Matrix, which starts at $18,845, excluding the destination fee. The base Honda CR-Z also has a higher power-to-weight ratio, gets better gasoline mileage because it is a hybrid and starts at $19,545, excluding destination charge. The base Subaru Impreza also has a greater weight-to-power ratio, starts at $17,495 and comes with all-wheel-drive and more storage space and gets comparable mileage to the 500.
