New project (well possibly)
I've got me a new project.
2000 - X reg Fiat Brava.
1 owner from new, full Fiat service history (although lost, I know the previous owner, and know that it has got a FSH), and only 30600 miles on the clock.
Its base spec, no frills, except for a 6-disk muti changer in the boot, and Tax until Feb 2011.
Guess how much
FREE
MOT failure on emissions. Its lived in South London all its life though, and only goes to Cornwall about once a year, so last night saw a run back to Sunny Suffolk.
Have run it on fumes to drain the tank on the way home, and added 275ml of Redex (enough for 100L of petrol) to the tank and filled it with 15L of Shell V-Power in the hope it might clean out some crap.
Done 35 miles since adding the redex and v-power and she idles a little better. Now just fingers crossed for the MOT at 1515hrs this afternoon.
So whats going to happen to her. Well it all depends upon this afternoons out-come.
I'm suspecting another fail as the injector warning lamp illuminated when on the drive this morning, and I don't think its OBD2 compliant as I've yet to find a 16pin plug to pull off any fault codes
If it passes, its going to be going on eBay, as a classified ad for a month. Failing it selling, or its MOT, its one of the following.
Gets stripped for parts and sold in bits. Seems criminal to do to a car with only 31k on the clock though.
Sits on the drive until I get a decent job and it becomes a track day car project. Got speaking to my friend Jai the last time I saw him, and he said a few Bravo's have had 20v Coupe engine swaps
A 2nd project that may then come out of the above 2 could be 1.2 16v engine swap into a classic Panda
Jon.
Ps, if it is OBD compliant I'm assuming the 16pin connect would be around the drivers right knee, in the fuse box area?

Re: New project (well possibly)
I think you might find its not OBD2 compliant Jon ..this is normally 2001 on..probably is OBD compliant tho..good luck with the car mate..I just sold on some injectors as well that would have fitted it..DOH..have a look in the engine bay and the black fuse box by the clutch/brake fluid res..I think you might find a port at the back of the fuse box..might be able to get a port converter to read the codes..

Re: New project (well possibly)
Well quick project. Flew through MOT about half hour ago so will be going on eBay soon
It does have a slight intermittant mis-fire though. Going to remove engine cover to see if there is anything obvious, failing that is there any way of finding out what coil i could be (think one might be failing?) without using diagnostics, as its not OBD2 compliant, and my rather ill mechanic didn't have much luck with his 'Ethos' Scanner earlier.

It went into Thames Fiat Croydon (who I'm about to do a write up on and name and shame!!) for a service and MOT 4 weeks ago, and seeings as they failed its MOT and said it'll be £1070 to get it to pass, and I spent less than a £5 (redex and the 7p a litre extra for V-power), I wonder just how much of a service they've done.
So plan is in a bit to remove engine cover and check leads and plugs, might dig my spark plug flasher LED thingys out to see if the mis-fire is on one cylinder or not.

Re: New project (well possibly)
Coils can fail causing misfire on one cylinder so it could be that but would be an expensive replacement if not needed in the first place..I wouldnt mind betting its a plug or a lead that causing this..would have been nice tho to have been able to stick a code reader on it so see whats what..I had a friend ring me the other day to ask if I could read his ecu on his weekender estate..but had to turn him down as well due to it not being compliant with my scanner..
he was having load of electrial problems and sold it in the end and bought an astra..couldnt read the codes on that one either also not compliant..LMAO..

Lol. Yeah, its a bit of a pain, tempted to invest in something to the the 3pin system, as the Later Classic Panda's use this, but TBH they're so simple you don't really need a code reader anyway. lol.
I'll have a look at the pugs and leads and keep you updated.
Also need to go to scrappy beginning of next week to get two bits of trim to finish it off.

Thanks for that, will have another look but it does have the 3pin pre OBD2 plug by the fusebox under the bonnet, so am wondering if the years are that accurate on Fiat ECU Scan.
Like I say, I've downloaded the free version for now, and brought the USB interface off of eBay, but just not had much time to play. lol.
