Default Cambelt and kit (not Stilo) sneakin in! :-)

Hi guys... all still very good with our Stilo!

But my MJet 1.9 GPS is having a cambelt kit done before the MoT is due, 54,000 miles now, sensible since I have it re-mapped I think.

Q is... the guys I am getting quotes on fit Gates kit, (SKF bearing etc) and its OE stuff just not branded Fiat... true or false?

First quote all in, parts & labour for the full kit inc water pump is £270 inc VAT... that sound good to you fellas?

2 more quotes to come yet, none are from dealers BTW...

£270 is probably about right for the diesel as the actual kit costs about double what the 1.2's costs I think, well according to shop4parts it is. Cost about £150 for my 1.2 last month from a Fiat/Alfa independent. Fiat themselves were asking over £300

Not sure about the Gates kit. Have heard it's not as good as the Fiat OE one, though could be totally wrong. Someone more in the know may be able to relay any experiences with them.

I think I'll pop into my chosen place and ask for Dayco kit, they do water pumps too I believe... decisions decisions.... MoT... Tax... Insurance... all to be done in the same month.

And on 2 blo*dy cars for the tax and insurance!

That was the one bit of advise my Dad gave me when getting a car, spread out the costs. Hence my insurance renewal in January, tax in February, service in March and MOT in September. Helps a bit, but I'm always struggling for cash

Now that I've edited it to include where I pay my tax, it kinda shows that it's not quite as spaced out as I'd like it to be. Oh well.
