    Default Ooer.. broken cambelt

    Well, what a f**king day.

Today is my birtday lol, so we decide to go to the local Marks and Spencers for a nice cake for later. Im sat in the car park, engine idling next thing I know, drops to like 500rpm and below and stalls. Wont restart. Finally the stroppy things started and sounded like a knackered diesel with no exhaust.

ANyway, lucily the local garage I use it literally behind M&S. He took a quick look, cambelt basically broken but not snapped completely, jumped several teeth he seemed to think and something poking out the side of the cambelt cover.

Hes stripped it today and going to fit a new belt and stuff tomorrow, costing abut £190. If that doesnt fix it.. think the job might be f**ked and god knows what. I just cant believe how lucky I was just sat there. If we had not gone to M&S I would have been on the Leeds outer ring road probably doing 60-80mph in places.

If it comes to the worst the car will be taken off the road until I can come up with a cheap way of fixing it.

And after that you still have the cheerful mood showing man your a star I would be going around the house punching out the door panels ..think you might just have got away with it by the skin of your doo dah Dan ..cam belt failure usually when belt snaps displays engine in jam up mode with mega graunchy noises as the valves hit the pistons or the pistons screw up the bores..Fingers crossed for ya.. and by the way dont for get the water pump either..

Indeed, happy birthday but what a thing to happen on it. As Phil and indeed yourself say, was lucky it didn't happen at higher rpm when you were on the motorway or something. Hope it gets sorted easily and cheaply for you

How annoying! Hope you've had a good birthday other than that though.

Happy Birthday and sorry to hear about the cambelt. If you can get away with just replacing the cambelt/tensioners/etc then consider yourself lucky!
