is it over fuelling? you'll need to get it looked at, what speed were you doing?
    any lights on the dash?

hmmm, you'll need to get it hooked up to some diagnostic equipment to see what the fuelling is like. the catalytic converter maybe blocked as well. i know it all speculation.

get that seen to ASAP. If the exhaust gasses are getting that hot there must be something not very happy somewhere.

The temperature guage on the car reports the temperature of the coolant so it wouldnt know about your manifold temp.

Like scottie says, you need a diagnostic, just to check that the sensor are working properly and such, otherwise this will seriously mess up your fuelling.
