Its an 04.
Where does that put me?
Did they start applying the upgrades at point of manufacturing on later models?
There was no problems with idle before the head gasket went so not sure it does need ECU upgrade.
But if it does, do Fiat charge for the check and upgrade if the car is past its warranty?
Cheers

Right Oh then as yours is an 04 it would not apply..mine was an 02 52 plate and needed it done because of persistant map sensor issuses..looks like this has arrisen because of the head gasket job and the interuption of throttle position so the throttle body might need a relearn and check over..relearn proceedure can be done by fiat only from what I know of it..
International man of mystery
Wit, sarcasm, you get it all from me..

Re: Head Gasket Advice Needed - Help me guys?!?!
Been scouring FF and found this procedure.
Throttle relearn
1) switch ignition on (DONT START) for one minute
2) switch ignition off one minute
3) start car (DONT TOUCH THROTTLE AT ALL) and let idle until cooling fan cuts in (10-15mins)
4) switch off
5) repeat step 1
6) repeat step 2
Also this one
The self learning procedure can also be done without an Examiner with Scantool-like interface and Scanmaster software
send 30-04-07 (start self learning)
wait for 5 seconds -
send 21-7C (procedure check)
read value of 7C - if value is 12 ,self-learning is o.k.
Gave the first one a go but it made no difference to idle. To be fair don't think the ICV has been cleaned properly so it's going in for MOT on Thursday and I'll get the dude to take out the ICV and give a proper going over.
Perhaps he could try the second procedure using his diagnostics kit. Kit I've got is only good for reading codes.
What d'ya reckon?

Re: Head Gasket Advice Needed - Help me guys?!?!
Actually, just been reading more stuff on Fiat Forums and from symptoms desribed by other people it's sounding more like a timing belt issue.
I think this was changed by the garage when they fit the new head gasket.
But from what I read if you don't fit it properly and very accurately then you can have problems very much like mine.
This is getting a bit confusing now and so far I've been told it could be....
1. Idle control valve needing a cleanup
2. Interuption of throttle position needing throttle relearn
3. Timing belt misalign
And a bunch of other stuff I'm not even going to mention because it couldn't have been more wrong
Definately confused.com
