    Default Reading Fault Codes

    Hi Guys.

Can anyone answer me if Stilo DTC fault codes are transmitted over CANbus or K-line?
Oh and does anyone have a full list of available fault codes for Stilo 1.6 16v?

    Cheers

    Andy

    Hi,

Engine ECU fault codes are over the K-line only I believe, as are the ABS, Steering, Airbag etc on their respective pins in the Stilo.

The body computer, connectnav, climate etc can be done over canbus like Yani's fiatecuscan software does, think they use KWP2000 protocol over CAN.. there are some documents out there about this, but they are about the software layer only not the actual fault codes etc.

If you look in the download and discuss section here there is a file called the Unidiag Pack. In the definitions folder the definitions file is about as complete as it gets in the public domain iirc. AFAIK the fiat/alfa/lancia codes arent model specific as such.

Ill attach it here if you cant find it.

    Hi Dan.

    Thanks for the info.
Had a feeling it was K-Line only.

Found the Unidiag pack and grabbed it.

    Cheers

    Hi Andy,

There are some fiat tech documents dated around 2000 that describe diagnosis over CAN using keyword protocol but I am not sure if this was implemented in the Stilo, and from what I have read elsewhere it wasnt.

If they are of any use I will get them attached here if you like? Other than that I can onl;y help in theory as I dont have the car.

Ive attached them anyway. Might be of some use

Example of KWP over CAN with KWP over Kline for comparison

KWP2000 is not a standard according to ISO15765 but according to ISO14230.
KWP2000 over CAN uses only the physical layer of CAN. All other layers are built according to ISO14230.

    07 DF 02 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 request Service 1 PID 0 ( ISO 15765 )
    C2 33 F1 01 00 CS request Service 1 PID 0 ( ISO 14230 - KWP2000 ) message sent using K-line to all ECUs

    07 E0 02 14 00 00 00 00 00 00 request Service 14 ( clear DTC ) of KWP2000 used with CAN . Message sent to main ECU
    82 10 F1 14 00 CS request Service 14 ( clear DTC ) of KWP2000 via K-line . Message sent to main ECU with address 0x10
