International man of mystery
Wit, sarcasm, you get it all from me..

Sorry no mines the OE / factory airbox, not the BMC.. I couldnt be arsed jacking the car up to change it back to standard so let the car go with it..
You would just need a standard abarth filter, £7-12 afaik. Think the diameter of the intake tract is larger on the abarth. You can have it for cost of the postage and a few quid for my time. Saves it from the bin

From the pics, the BMC or one of the cheaper imitation kits would possibly be the better option as having the filter where I have mine, there may not be enough room between the engine and the battery due to the LPG ECU on the side. The main issue I had with mine was the diameter of the pipes coming from the TB as you'll notice in my thread .
Think the best option would be to take the airbox off, leaving the original piping, measure the diameter of the original intake pipe then get an angled connector to go onto the enclosed kit (say 45 degrees). Main issue with this approach is the filter housing basically sits just a few inches above the manifold on the 1.4, but it's no worse than the standard set up. Plus you can get support brackets to perhaps position it in a more favourable way. On the other end of the filter enclosure (assuming it's similar to the BMC) you could have a cold air feed going to the bottom of the bay or perhaps one of the bumper's side vent areas, which you'd need to cut some slats in to get cold air through as I think it's just the JTD that actually has one of these side vents as an open vent and not a purely cosmetic one.
Have to say, after months of having mine fitted I still love the sound of it. It's not stupidly loud, but going through a tunnel is...interesting![]()

That's why I said you "could" have the cold air feed option going to those areas. I have actually seen people just running with the BMC style kit open at the other end but with that option, where's the cold air going to come from? My option was to place the filter far higher, but not on top of the engine/manifold like the 57i and other induction kits.
The option I used was to do the pipe work myself from the TB to angle the cone filter I got towards the original gap at the front above the grille where the cold air had been going into the original air box. Not sure if this would be feasible for you though, especially with the BMC style kit as I don't know if the gap between the engine and the LPG ECU would allow this.
Also, since the attached pics were taken I added a heat shield around the cone for added heat protection.

Thanks for that. Its just what I'm looking for I think. I think it would just fit in there with LPG ECU tbh. So where did you get your bits from and how much did it cost?
So does that filter have an inner eliment, or is it cleanable? And I assume it copes ok with slight spray coming from below / through front?

Got my bits from Auto Performance and Regal Motorsport, but I'd make sure you know the exact parts your going for from the former as they don't seemingly give refunds. Made a mistake in ordering a single part, cancelled it an hour later and didn't get a refund even after months of chasing it up.
One thing though, if you're just going to go for a cone filter, could maybe look at this... 99-03 FIAT PUNTO MK 2 1 2L 16V AIR INDUCTION KIT 29 99 ...Phil recommended something similar to me at the time, but I decided to go my own route. Have seen it fitted to a Punto though and seemed to do the trick. A lot less faffing about trying to make things fit and looks pretty decent too. As far as I know as well, the 1.2 and 1.4 air filter parts and sizes are the same though others (Phil) may correct me on that, so this one should fit yours.
In terms of the filter I have, it's a metal mesh one so no cleaning/replacement needed unlike the cotton cone filters that need cleaning and re-oiling. I've seen the odd drip of dirty water on the heat shield around the filter but nothing major. Certainly nothing to take any performance or reliability away.
Of course as has been mentioned you do get more of an induction noise with an open filter like mine. Never bothers me though as it's not boomy on the motorway and personally I think it sounds quite nice and purposeful. On the fuel consumption front, I don't notice a massive difference. It may well have went down a bit though as I do like to rev it a bit more for obvious reasons![]()
