Default water pump problem?? fiat stilo 1.6 dynamic

new to this so any help appreciated!!

car had been driving fine, this morning temperature gauge shot up and hit the red. pulled over into a petrol station and put 2 litres of water in. continued driving (use my car for work) for the rest of the day and the temperature gauge was between half way and 3/4. however sometimes while driving it sounded like water rushing through the bonnet? when the engone was turned on the fan kicked in almost immediately before even driving off and once turning the engine off it made a gurgling/bubbling noise for a minute or so.

once home my brother had a look, coolant was empty. poured through more water and eventually it seemed to stay in the min and max lines. (engine off). however once engine was turned on the water level slowly decreased and we found a leak under the bonnet, seemingly coming from where there are some belts front leftish looking at the car head on (as you can see i dont know much!!)

any ideas what this could be? water pump? price to be fixed? am i right in saying water pump isnt connected to the cambelt on a fiat 1.6??

    any help please???

Hi, I'm not to familiar with the 1.6 engine, but from your discription it does sound like the water pump.

Are you able to provide any pictures and upload them to help with diagnosis?

Hopfully someone will be along soon who has more experience with the 1.6 engine and can help you more.

Your lucky on the 1.6 the water pump is connected by an auxilary belt and not run off the cam belt..check ebay or local factors for the part and check the hourly labour charge at your garage or get a quote from them ..should be no more than one to one and a half hours max..

Water pump is SGR 10402 on the diagram..

Hi I'm experiencing the same problem only different because with mine, the water is still full except that its boiling and making a gurgling noise. It drives for about 2 kilometers then it becomes hot then after a few minutes drives well. I really dont know bcos I just had my cam belt done so must I change the water pump and thermostat?

    Chosi,
Hi I have found a solution the fault was the the head gasket fitted was not the original so as a result it had blocked water from circulating and then killed the pump. I had to but an original head gasket, new water pump, thermostat and new switch .The car is back to normal now and its perfoming well. I have attached few photos to show the two head gaskets!
