tappets? hi all my stilo 1.8 16v is making a tapping noise . not on start up from cold when first stared from cold revs around 1050 rpm theres no noise at all from the engine. when the revs drop to 850 rpm tick over its there all the time. cam belt ect was done 2500 miles ago. oil is mobil 5w/40. thanks mark ps car runs good.
Stilo's use hydralic cam lifers that are oil filled ..so its ware or they are gunked up..if their gunked up then you might get away with a good engine flush..if its ware then its a top end strip down to find and replace the culprit..

thanks for the reply i only had the car about 4 weeks and it was left stood for around 4 -5 months. only done around 3000 miles in the last year. is forte a good flush to use? or to end cleaner thanks mark
Forte would be my recomendation to you..and I would actually leave it in the engine for around 25 miles before flushing..I did and had no advert problems by doing so ..the end product was loads of the gunk that acumilates getting flushed out and in your case it should shift any gunk thats stopping the tappet from working correctly..if it contunues after that then you must look for other solutions to the problem which will probably be the ware factor..

as pnl says a good engine flush should do your engine the world of good mate
should remove the majority of unpleasentries from your engine
