Different engine oil recommendations?
Hi All,
I drive a stilo 2.4 M.S, recently I've been perplexed by the different engine oil recommendations based one year. Mainly;
Year 2001-2004: 5w40
2005 on wards: 10w60
Does anyone know why there is a difference even though its the same engine, only constructed at different years.

In my opinion there shouldn't be a difference in engine build year, only difference should be depending upon the climate the car is run in, really cold starts in minus 15C temps vs 20C+ temps for cold starts most of the time.
Tbh I'd personally used the 5w40 myself.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm running redline 15w50, I live in the tropics so no issues with cold starting temps, I'll be switching to a 40wgt oil after my oil change, feels a little sluggish at 50wgt oil. Was worried about damage if i changed to a lower weight oil; although other 2.4 stilos here use 5w40 oils.
The reason I'm asking is cuz at Opieoils if you select a stilo before 2005 it recommends 10w40, and after 2005 it recommends 10w60. Our manual recommends Selenia Racing which is a 10w60 oil for the 2.4. Amit all this I'm confused whom to follow.
