My 1.9 jtd has a mind of its own
Last nite pulled up outside the house, turn the ignition off and took the key out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HOLD ON i thought why is my engine still running!!!
I had the bloody key in my hand, i put the key back in and turned one click and it turned the engine off!
So i started her up again then switched off and it was still running, i put the key back in again and it switched off, so i just left it and got out, i then heard the fan kick in, which to my memory has never ran before, well when i have turned of the engine that is!
ANYONE have this problem b4 or came acros it
Help would be greatly app
Cheers

The dam thing has stopped doing it now, and don't want to take it to get tested on a computer, as they will charge me and prob not find the answer! i will just have to play it by ear and see if the problem arises again!!!

Seen this problem before on diesels ...... remember diesel is an oil......saw this in a MK2 Golf GTD and the piston rings had gone and the engine was sucking oil into the cylinder and burning it therefore keeping it running, to stop it we had to stall it as it just would'nt turn off........ this might not be your problem at all maybe dodgy italian wiring again but keep an eye on your oil level just incase........

Re: My 1.9 jtd has a mind of its own
It had been raining all day and drove through some puddles on the way home from work!!! and later that night i washed the car with a power hose at a garage, it was about ten mins after when i got home the problem started, it only lasted a couple of days and now its fine ;D
maybe some sort of electrical fault caused by water!!!

Sounds like it could be a faulty ignition switch or water in the under bonnet fuse box!

Re: My 1.9 jtd has a mind of its own
This is maybe old news for you but...
When I bought my JTD the shop techs washed my engine compartiment
WOW... day 1, electric problems coming up. One of them was turning the key off and the car keep running. Next day I take it back to the garage, but, the engine must been drying during the night, when I arrived it never hapenned again...
Conclusion, be aware of some kind of water leak, rain > engine, you must keep it really dry. :)

Oh yes ..with modern engines the number of sensors in the engine compartment just makes my old head spin ..give those a thorough soaking and all hell opens up with the bells of St.Trinians..
