Re: 1.9 standard air filter???
Well at the min i have a ripspeed induction kit fitted, i removed the standard filter box, but i removed some sort of sensor that was connected to the filter box on the engine side. the pic shows the connection running from inside the battery cover to the sensor

Re: 1.9 standard air filter???
when looking into your engine bay, the sensor is found in the gap down between your engine and battery. if that helps, and the sensor is attached to the filter box, it looks like its part of the box but it can be removed with two screws, so ive dis-connected it and put it back in place with my induction kit at the min, need assistance on whether i can remove it completley

Re: 1.9 standard air filter???
That's the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, the thing you unscrewed is the sensor housing.
I don't think you can disconnect it the sensor as it reads air flow and alters fueling accordingly. Disconnecting the sensor forces a default unit to be used by the ecu but you won't get the benefits of an induction kit without the sensor and a proper remap.

Yup - from your description that's the AFM alright (can't see a piccie ???) .... has to stay or as Mini says that'll force the ECU to run a base setting :(

Re: 1.9 standard air filter???
Now you see there's the odd thing - when I was having MAF "spies" I disconnected it as an experiment and the car ran OK, but I had absolutely no warning lights on the dash ???
Plenty of error codes logged when we put it on the diagnostic machine, but nothing on the dash display.
How weird is that :o ::) ;D
