who is interested in remaps?
i am thinking about getting into the remapping business but want to gauge interest first.
are people still interested in this in the current climate?
the guys that know me know i have the right mindset and customer service. its just a lit of cash if there is no market
remember though that mapping can be for economy as well as performance.

Re: who is interested in remaps?
I think there is a down turn in activity in mapping now and you can see this on many forums fiat forum is just one example where things are going tits up and people complaining about the mapping causing problems on their cars..also you will see that peeps are quick to condemn some tuners to creat a market for the guy he or she supports..[loads of back stabbing and bad feeling going on on many of the forums at the mo] Not some thing I would want to take on without some kind of formal training and know how because it could have serious implications if things went wrong on a big scale if an engine got screwed because of the mapping process..one you will have to think about long and hard ..:)

Re: who is interested in remaps?
i have looked into getting into this business as well, it seems to be pretty accesible for anyone with a bit of common sense, (don't mean that in a bad way ppl) there are plenty of tuners out there, its just the price that puts most people off.
a well respected diesel tuning company over here torquetronix do remaps from £200 i think if it was in around or even below that price there would be plenty of business for it.
there are even alot of info on DIY mapping for people wanting to fool around with they're ecu's

You forgot to add
"At your own Peril" Scottie.
We remapped a GT Tdi Golf a couple of months ago, were the owner had tried an "Ebay Remap kit", Surprisingly it never worked. His 130Bhp GTTDI went slower than an Asda Trolley, and was as rough as hell.
You can purchase numerous bits of kit to "get into" the remapping game, however it really is in most cases that pirce reflects the quality of the kit.
Good Luck whatever you decide, if you do think about it give me a shout as i may know of some kit up for sale (Dealer level) for a good price.

Re: who is interested in remaps?
Im getting my done either at the end of this month or next (prob next)
The kit isnt the bit that means much, its the quality of the maps. You can just dump your own ecu, send it off by email and get a tuned map back. That why theres people all over doing it mobile.
TBH Id rather take it somewhere where they actually understand what they are doing and can modify the map, and knowledge of the car they are doing it on.
There is a place down the road for me that does everything, HID's, maps, whole manner of tuning stuff. But when I went in they didnt have a clue, and soon as one of them said 'innit', I asked for a business card and left.
Its like PNL said above, everyone is at it these days, and im sure someone somewhere has a horror story to tell about every mapper/tuner.
Its something Im really interested in but no way would I want to do it, people blaming your map for every fault they have...

Save and send are good as long as the person on both ends knows what they are doing.
The most important person is the one who reads and write the fiels, as they have to make sue they have the vehicle set up correctly, chose the correct ECU model etc etc, else its a big "expensive" waste of time.
Personally though on the "live" remap issue, yes they are better but at a large premium, and only (In my own opinion) only worth getting if you have modified your vehicle so much from stock, that you need to take into account all the modifications.
A Exhaust change and Induction kit, and putting stripes down the front of the bonnet doesn;t matter on a "normal" remap.
Scottie if you decide to get involved in the Remapping side of things, and decide on the "read, save, Send, Write" option ,let me know and i can seek out a good dealer for you. Or i may have some kit here at a good "fsoc type" price. ;)
