mate of mine bought a 2002 Civic Sport at auction CAT D write off 2 weeks ago, needed a headlight/bumper & wing, he has it repaired and going for the VIC Test this saturday, he made a good saving over retail ( about 2k)
If is a cat D there is no need for VIC ?

he told me it was Cat D but maybe it was Cat C, there was no V5 with the car so he has to VIC test

Edit: i just asked him it was sold to him as Cat D, but the DVLNI computer says Cat C, thus requiring VIC Testing

Yeah, thats the one. Mine was a CAT-D with no logbook, and that was re-issued, no questions asked, a CAT-C Megan I once had though they wouldn't re-issue V5 on until VIC was done.

Slight update, I now have what looks like a Panda, front Bumper on, along with head lamps and grille. Also fitted and filled coolant system, which is working funny with fan kicking in when hot enough. So ready for 1st April for taxing and going on the road for transporting to get last finishing touches done.

Will ad pic's in a bit. I'm shattered and off to bed (student burning the candle at both ends as usual lol).

Some pic's of the final jobs being undertaken and the nearly finished product.

Had fun with dealer ordering wrong part when I needed rubber feet for the rad mounts, so that delayed things by a day, but now have cooling system installed and plumbed in. Fully working with heat in the car, and cooling fan kicking in as of when.

Need to get some of the fixing screws for the bumper, and foglamp blanks.

I fixed the headlamps with the bracket kits from Fiat. Really easy and simple to do, and holes for the screws in the kit are already pre-drilled!

Had her on the road today, being the 1st of the month, got insurance to start, and tax.

Firstly took front wheels down the road to get the tyres replaced.

Then took it to mechanic, we had a good gander underneath with a tape measure and turns out the subframe had shifted, not buckled.

Undone the bolts slightly and it simply knocked into place!

She drives as sweet as any car with 450 miles on the clock, and I like the auto box!

Now waiting until the 12th for going in for body pannel painting. Will then be off to car auctions for sale.

Will do a price update in a few days, brought the last few bits and bobs last week from Fiat and have a few more finishing trim bits to buy.

I hear what your saying, and have thought about it long and hard but have decided to sell at auction for two main reasons, A) time, I need the money ASAP really, lol, and B) got less of a comeback if I've made a mistake somewhere along the lines and say the gearbox starts giving problems in a months time, and although I'm confident enough with my work that I'd keep the car, Being my first real repair, I'd rather cover myself.

I am going to send it to aucion with a reserve though (taking into account comission etc), so if it doesn't sell then it'll be onto eBay.

I've already got my eye on another Panda repair project though, and that I'll probably sell privatly once done.

great thread mate really enjoy reading things like this!

What would you have done if it was buckled? surely it would have been costly to fix if not a pointless buy? Especially after spending so much on the motor?

    Lookforward to painting

    Is that the Subframe?

It would have been replaced. I already asumed worst case senario and purchased a used replacement for £75 (was removed for me also) off of a 55plate Panda with only 19k on the clock.

So that is going spare, and I'll either put it on eBay and make a slight proffit (there on there for £100+ for Puntos), or keep as a spare in the garage for now.
