Car wont start!!
Hi, my Y-reg punto, 1.2 Sporting, has recently had a re-con engine put in, its had a brand new battery, but refuses to start, its tries but it makes like a rurr rurr sound once or twice and thats it. would it be a starter motor?? sorry my description is brief im not too clued up on cars.
any ideas would be a great help. thanks

i changed the starter motor and now when the ignition lights are on theres a whinning noise from the engine, and when you try to start it, it jus clicks!
-
check the earth points on the engine.
-
i will try that this morn and let you know how i get on.

Fuel pump (IIRC it is rthe same one as in the brava and they are known to fail. Mine on brava did £300 to replace at the time) check that it is working................Have you also tried a push start?

clicks? battery is flat! specially if you've tried to start it numerous times without it charging (as it would once the engine runs). it takes alot of amps to turn the engine over!
if it clicks, usually you hear the sound of a relay from under the dashboard or in the engine bay, the battery is flat and you'll notice the warning lights dim when you try to crank it. maybe they even flash.
if its as you say "rurr rurr" then again, the batteries struggling.
if when you crank it, it sounds like it starts but doesnt, if you know what i mean, you hear it turning over and coughing so to speak, there could be air in the fuel. not a problem, undo fillercap and let the air pressure out then put it back.
failing that, immobiliser, incorrectly timed cam belt, fuel delivery problem (e.g fuel pump failure), ECU problem.
actually mentioning ECU, now im not an expert with fiats as im a ford person myself, but if you've changed the engine completely from what it was e.g size, then you must have changed the ECU aswell which could be the problem, as a secondary ECU (or at least computer module) would be expecting to talk to the original ECU. so if you have changed the ECU, and you have the old one to hand, give it a shot!
