    Default JTD Injector Problems

    Hi all

Don't know if anyone can advise but my Stilo 1.9 JTD is currently stuck in the local garage. Initial problems included a slight 'clattering' that occasionally happened when I turned left. The engine then cut out twice (funnily both times on a left bend).

Finally on the way to the garage to investigate what initially was a small fault - the engine cut out several times with clattering and big black smoke from the exhaust.

After fitting a new EGR valve (which had been disconnected for a year anyway) the garage could then read the error code and it comes up with a fault on Injector 1 - they say they are reluctant to change it yet incase this is not the problem.

Any advice would be welcome - and does anyone know how much this might all be adding up to by now !!

    Cheers Jon

Injector is easy to fix, but not a cheap part - If you were handy with a wrnech or teo, you could swap injectors over to see if the fautl follows it - 1, 2 ,etc etc

Check your intecooler pipes not split, this would cause cut outs / black smoke etc.
Feel the pipe formthe intercooler (Underneath passenger side headlight - best accessed from front and underneath), the pipe runs through some lovely sharp engine protection which works very similiar to Sly Stallones knife in Rambo.
Feel and squeeze all along it checking for splits and signs of wear.
I reckon this is a good starting point.
Also - Whens the last time your fuel filter was changed?
Injector could be clogged / blocked

    Cheers for that

Funny you should mention the intercooler pipe - forked out on new one only last month !! I cut back the engine protection cover at same time to stop it happening again.

Good tip for swapping injectors though - will mention to garage. It had new fuel filter at last service which was only 8k miles ago.
