    Talking Sky Window (mouldy version)

    Hi All,
My sky window just stopped working one sunny day last summer and Fiat Southgate garage said you can't replace parts of the sky window and it would be £3000 to replace the whole unit. Maybe that's their way of saying 'get lost, we don't need the hassle'. I am up for a project this coming summer so wonder if anyone has the same problem. The screen under the glass blades stopped moving at the same time. It might just be motors or who knows what?

    Who knows what?

    Thanks

p.s. my much mocked but trusty stilo, owned since new, started in minus 25 degree temps in northern sweden last week without so much as a whimper. Love it!

i take it you've check the fuses are okay?

is it still moving but out of sync?

might be possible to remove the motors and get the Re-conditioned

Hi Fred, As Our little Shamrock chewing acquinatance above says, checks the fuses first.
Then, try, removing the control panel (Switch console on ceiling!) - It only clips in - so be gentle, inside you will see a handle which can b removed (Ratehr like a large allen key), take this out and insert it into the switch gear (There is a hole designed for it) now turn the handle to open the skyroof (This is the method if it ver get stuck open / shut), open it fully. Now whilst you have the chance, get on some step ladder (Unless your really tall!), and clean the guide rails of the glass roof and the sun blind. Then once clean and dry, lube it up (ooh err!) with some good quality grease (ZX-1 is Excellent).

Now key in ignition, and handle removed from console.

Ignition on, and turn the skyroof switch to "close" (Anticlockwise!), does anything happen - It should close along with the blind.
    If not,
Turn the skyroof switch to right (clockwise), leave for a couple of seconds and return it back to the close position (Anticlockwise)

Now "PRESS" the skyroof switch in (like a button) and keep it pressed in, this should reset the system and start to close the roof and blind, leave it pressed in until the roof and blind are fully closed.
Once they are, test the roof by opening and shutting it.

    I hope this helps.
BTW, your local dealer ar talking garbage, all the parts on the Skyroof, especially the motor are removable / changeable, the motor is a Fiat part and can be bought seperately, i now because, when my little Beastie was brand new and hadn;t even been driven off teh forecourt, my Skyroof motor was knackered, so i had to book her into the dealer near me, who ordered the new motor and swapped them over - and voila! working roof

I think the guys have given loads to go on with some good post there and very ood one from crosshairs..

Cables on these sunfoofs are prone to siezing and are expansive IF you can get one ..motors are aslo an expensive item to buy and I take it you have checked that its not a dead one..

Curtain motor is fuse F45-20 amp

    Motor is F46-20 amp

Skyroof control is F49-7.5 amp and there are all in the under dash fuse box..

Also make sure all the guttering and running tracks are completely spotlessly clean..good luck..

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your help.
I assume that when I took it into the fiat garage to get it fixed, they checked the fuses, but bearing in mind some of their other cockups maybe i shouldn't make any such assumptions.
    I'll check the fuses first.
It isn't moving at all, not even a little bit, just completely dead. Does anyone have a plan of the position of the motors and what codes they are if i need to replace them?
    Happy new year!
    Fred
p.s. it's now minus 40 degrees here in Sweden and not a single school has closed, not a bus or train delayed. Oh England my England, what a mess you are!

assume nothing mate it makes an ASS out of U and ME lol.
i took my ST focus to the dealers as the AC wouldnt blow hot air so they plugged it in and found the fault and another, they told me the AirBag module was gone because the airbag light was on the dash. i tried to explain to them that i had removed the fuse for the airbags as you cannot switch them off (had the baby seat in the front) and they argued with me that the module was faulty so i had to go down and replace the fuse because they were too dumb to look in the fuse box and VOILA!! air bag light vanished upon replacement of said fuse.

    Unhappy skyroof

I have changed the fuses, a tackling noise goes when I try and close it! i think it because the carpet that comes along with the roof when it closes is stuck at the end, unless the carpet moves it'll close properly and then open properly, any suggestions on how to get that carpet move as its stuck at the end of the roof?
