Default Oil and filter change 1.6

First job on this one is to jack up the car and support on axle stands you need quite a bit of clearance so you can work under there safely..your looking for three items to do this job

[1] the oil filter which has to be removed and replaced with a fresh new one ..

[2] the drain plug to drain the sump of the old oil..

[3] filler on top of the engine

    first the oil filter..item 12..

You will need a tool to undo this there are many types but I generally use this type..

Sealey AK6412 - Oil Filter Pliers Forged 45-89mm Capacity

Filler on the 1.6 is a rubber pull out type seen on the bottom /middle part of this engine cover

sump plug is Item 2 in the diag..

    Now the job..

Remove the under tray if fitted..

Held in by a series of bolts..

You will need some kind of container to drain the oil into like and old bowl [dont nick the wifes] and then locate the sump plug on the sump and remove using a 14mm hex alan key or alan socket and rachet which is the preferable way because the plug will be quite tight to undo drain the oil into your container and refit the plug and screw it tight..

Next turn to the oil filter use which ever tool you have and remove the filter [watch out for draining oil ]..clean around where the filter has sat with a rag and take the new filter and smear some fresh oil around the rubber seal on the filter and then screw the filter into place and tighten down tightly..next job is to pour in the fresh oil of your choice [check hand book for specs ..type and quantity] to the right leval on the dipstick now lower the car to the floor and start the car and watch to see that the oil light on the dash goes out if it doesnt switch off and investigate..if it does then check under the car that there is no leakage from the oil filter and sump plug if both are fine the job is done for one other point..

The oil filter will take some of the oil you filled the sumpautomatically as it fills and in the hand book it should state the amount inc filter you will need .. if you chose to fill to that amount then thats fine but if you dont then you will need to add some more to make up the shortfall in quantity the filter has taken..

    Job done..

Thanks for the great guide, does the oil filter comes out from underneath the car or from top?

Yep out from under the car as scotie said..as said on the guide it will be full of used and dirty oil so as you unscrew it there will be a sudden rush of oil..so get the container you are going to use under there to catch it..dont want to hear your wife is going to hunt me down cos you have made a mess..

Defo that.....Use an old bucket or cut a 5lt bottle open on the side and stick under the catch tank before you let the oil rip
