Default Wiring a capacitor into your sound system

My sound system is draining power from my battery, every time a bass note is hit the headlights dim down. I was told installing a capacitor would counter act this problem. I have the capacitor but was wondering anybody got a tip on wiring the dam thing???
Can i wire it directly on to the terminals at my AMP,,, (12v and grd) or just before the amp, or even at the battery???
Also just found out you hav to charge it before connection or you could damage the caps!!!
    Need opinions asap
    Cheers
