Nice ..I like the 1.6 its a good engine that goes back quite a way and had been used in other models from fiat..although they did upgrade items on the engine to improve emissions etc I believe..would it be ok if I have the pic of your engine for further reference...pweeeese..

You can keep the picture... I still keep the engine here! hehe :)
Btw... it's really a good engine... I can go fast... almost side by side with powerful cars and I can make relaxing driving with low fuel comsumption!!
(I've already made 5.5 l/100 km on motorway around 90 - 110 km/h)
Sorry.... but... don't know how mpg it is...

lolol... They drink as much as your wish for reving... lol
If you drive smoothly, without trying to reach high speed as soon as you see road ahead... it will return you a nice fuel consumption...
If you put your foot on it... Well... Then you might say it drinks well!
It all depends on your "motivation"... :D That's why I like the engine... can be economical... or... less civilized...

I saw a piccy earlier of the 1.6 without the engine cover on and thought it looked remarkably like the 1.6 engine out of a Bravo. 100bhp as standard on the Bravo.
My 1.4 however is nothing like the 1.4 on the MK1 Bravo (thank god).

yeah on the bravo, single cam, 12valves.
the 1.6 is more or less the same, very old engine, but rock solid, like the 1.2's
