Is you cars exhaust road legal
Since 2009 new legislation has come into force regarding the suitability of a cars/bikes exhaust system..so I have been doing some research on the subject and have found that some aftermarket systems dont meet the EU legal directive..
There are some good links in the following so read ..

Re: Is you cars exhaust road legal
Well looking at the posts on the thread PNL provided, it does look like the guys exhaust was beyond loud... BUT, it wasn't stated as illegal for road usage like bike cans are (From what I could see... Unless I missed something lol)... Also, how on earth did it pass MOTs with that kind of noise?!
But I've known the police to make stuff up occassionally. For example, at night, driving behind you on a b-road with their high beams on... Then they pull you over for speeding (31mph in a 30 at most...) when its more like concentrating on not crashing with the lack of visibility and if you query why the had them on they deny the whole thing... I wanted to lamp them to say the least lol

Re: Is you cars exhaust road legal
This is more to do with 2009 homologation to the standard systems we fit to our cars .manufacturers of after market systems have to build their systems to conform to strict E.U regs and would need C.E.aproval or A.B.T certification that they build their systems to conform to those..if companies up and down the country who build these systems can not prove theirs are and do conform they are deemed illegal..MOT testers would have been informed of this piece of legislation and no doubt will be on the look out for any vehicle that doesnt conform to the rules....
CE marking, CE mark, CE certification, CE approval, CE certificate, testing, European directive and standards
This company tells you they have E.U approval for their systems..many in this country have no such approval..

Re: Is you cars exhaust road legal
M.O.T only test petrol cars @ engine idle speed for emissions, they do not test the DB of exhausts, only if the exhaust is exceptionally loud at idle will they turn it down, in my AE86 corrolla i had a Jasma 4branch manifold into a straight janspeed Line and 2.5inch outward rolled back box, it was quiet at idle but at full throttle was very very loud. pass M.O.T no problems.
a few of my mates have been pulled by the police for their exhausts being excessively loud and they have just been given a notice to get the exhaust changed and show it at the police station within 14days.
alot of universal backboxes do not have CE markings, alot of them are just hollow stainless steel boxes with no for of "wadding" (wirewool) inside them to absorb the sounds.

there is nothing on their website to say that they are legal all the say is "Noise - This is a grey area, not even the police have written rules. obviously you should be wary that being too loud will get you on the wrong side of the law"
therefore they are not CE approved,
to behonest i wouldnt really worry about getting on the wrong side of the law if your car isnt excessively loud like a F1 car or something you should be alright, i welded a centre box from a citroen xsara picasso into my middle exhaust section to keep noise down with my backbox.
