depends what you want really mate the best thing to is use 1/2 inch mdf or try fiberglass (its very hard mate i have done it before mate and had to re do it its had to keep trying so stick wi mdf and then fiberglass you will get a much better sound out of the sub inverted or not they will be a very good sound out of it...
i wouldnt be too fussed with what i use, i ust want good sound yet adding the least weight.

Will look good if coverd in the same material as something else in the car, box is a little excessive for a 12" is it not, is it dual voice coil? After making installs since i was 13, the conclusion i've came to is, for ultimate performance, an MDF install is best, for practicality and looks, Carbon Fibre is great, you can mould seperate layers and make the most of a corner etc, but you sacrifice decent usuable and accurate volume.
Did you do all the correct volumetric calculations minus mat. thickness etc?

yer i ahve done all of that mate i have it all installed the sub box is only 1.25 cudic feet mate its perfect sound amazing and im covering it in black and red suede..
Great stuff, just looked huge, but the walls inside must be further in than the top of the box so, looks great, and i can't wait to see it finished!
