Neons, Neons and more Neons, worth adding ?
i saw a fiesta with neons down at my local cruise last friday, thought i might as well light my own ride up, im thinking Neon underneath as usual, neon on the bonnet (where the window washers are) neon on the grill, plus neon illuminated dashboard. all RED of course,
im pretty sure Neons are illegal, but ive seen a cool 5 switch hub in halfords i can plug them all into, so i just havto flick flick flick when the fuzz drive past

To give an idea how sketchy the law is - a girl was stopped with those Audi style LED lamps on the front of her car. They were under the badged part of her grille and placed in what you would think would be a perfectly okay place, hooked up to come on with her sidelights.
The police deemed them illegal even though the manufacturers had apparently worked closely with the police to make sure they were legal. This was covered in an issue of Auto Express a few months ago.
So basically, I believe the law is that you can only have white lights on the front, orange on the sides and red on the back. This is to take away any confusion from motorists driving up to you're car thinking it's facing a particular way when it isn't.
In terms of neons, I'd go with a general rule of thumb that it's offroad only BUT if you're at a cruise and in a car park, then it should be fine to switch them on. Personally I reckon they look a bit wrong on anything but a proper Jap car like a 350Z or RX7.

Re: Neons
Basically the rule is simple - White lights at the front (Indicators excepted :) ),
Now if you add neons / strip lights whatever then you need to simply follow the rules of the other lights at the front.
If you put your sidelights on and the "added" lights come on with them, then they should either be, i)As dim as the standard side lights, i.e simply a position light, or ii) Bright enough to be called headlights in which case they will need to be aimeed/angled etc accordingly. iii) If used as sidelights do not dazzle or over power the normal headlights.
The problem people face is that they fit them and thats it, no thought to dazzling people, in most examples the added lights end up similar to front fog lights, which as we all know shouldn't be used unless .....wait for it....wait for it.... (Saxo drivers wait for it!) FOGGY, reduced visability!.
If you look at the Audi Day running lights, they are angled correctly, they do not dazzle, and when the main headlights are on, the day LED's do not overpower them.
Simples.
Fit them, fit them properly, just imagine your fitting another set of headlights. (Washer LEDS are a no no cause of thier height and irregular light).
If you want to fit a set of kitchen bulbs under your arches, sills, up your ariel etc, then i'm afraid they can ONLY be used at cruises, so a nice on/off switch is a must.
