new to the forum.... bit of advice
hi all,
new to this and just after a bit of advice really,
Just bought a 02 plate 1.9 Jtd Dynanamic 5dr in light blue/grey with 52k on the clock. its all standard as far as im aware (im not too great with cars if im honest) just after makin it look abit better really, so question is what size alloys should i get (i do motorway driving most) i like the blades but open to ideas and should i get 4 or 5 stud?. Also think i need a new cd/radio/casette head unit as the FM radio does not lock on to stations and only the am/lw/mw stations work any ideas would be great.
thanks

Re: new to the forum.... bit of advice
hi there jonesy welcome to the forum, the stilo is 4stud.
Make : Fiat
Model : Stilo
Year : 01>
PCD : 4x98
Offset : 35 to 45
Bore : 58.1
Fittings : B 12x1.25
Recommended Tyre fitments,
15" 195/65/15
16" 205/55/16
17" 215/45/17
18" 225/40/18
19" 215/35/19
you can also fit 4x100 alloy wheels on with the aid of wobbly bolts, people tend to scare away with using wobbly bolts, dont listen to them i've been using wobbly bolts for5 years on my 1.2 stilo with no problems running 18inch wheels.
i would recommend getting 17s if you like a little comfort
but 18s are 100% in my opinion but people say the stilo "tram lines" with them i.e follows ruts in the road/ camber etc, it does a little but if you cannot correct it you shouldnt be on the road lol.
as for the radio you can get a replacement unit off ebay for about £70 for a standard fiat double din radio or you can go down the aftermarket route

Indeed Scottie speaks gospel.....But remember the bigger the wheel the harsher the ride. My stilo was running on 17s and because of the low profile tyres 215/45/17 you felt the bumps but 17s do make the car look shweet as
2001 fiat Brava (aka Shelly) Sold
2003 fiat Stilo (aka The Beast) Crashed
2003 fiat Stilo (aka The Beast 2) Sold
2006 Passat S TDI sold 2007 Honda Civic Type S GT-T current

Re: new to the forum.... bit of advice
cheers for the help scottie, and andy, let me know how much you'd want for the lot. also looked around this site and seen a few people on about cam/timing belts... (are they the same thing) and replacing them, the car has only done 52k like but if it is worth getting done then i will, rather pay 5 ton than however much its would cost to get a new engine like. and the aircon seem to not be as cold as i would expect but looking at old service papers it only got re-done last june!!
cheers

Re: new to the forum.... bit of advice
no problem Jonesy, you should get the timing belt done on the jtd,if i recall correctly they are recommended every 30k miles. and they are prone to snapping on the jtd/abarth engine
saying that my little 1.2 has lasted well, 6years and 80k miles and no timing belt, lol
i better get it done asap

Re: new to the forum.... bit of advice
cheers scottie lad,
I'm travelling home today so ill try and find somewhere by mine that can do it then, f*** payin to get it done down south like, how long does it normally take? is it a few hrs or days? (as ya can tell im not really clued up on cars...but im trying) i like the wheels on ur stilo mate looks smart that, i was after a 3dr jtd cos i do alot of motorway driving but after takin 3 lads back up north the other weekend in my old punto i decided a 5dr would be more practical, i dont like them as much but i think with the right bits on bobs they can look quite decent like,

Re: new to the forum.... bit of advice
should take around half a day to a full day mate, specialist tools are required like cam locking tools

When you get the cam belt done dont forget to have a new tensioner and water pump fitted as well..its important that you do or you might live to regrete that you didnt later on..
