    Default window tinting

i am finally ready to do the above, the only thing is that i dont really want to be stopped by the police, given £30 fine and told to rip it off... as i want to do the front passenger and drivers window aswell. afaik the current law states that 30% of the light must pass thru the passenger/drivers window and 35% thru the front window, but yet again i've found few ppl saying that you cant do nothing to the front windows at all, so it just confuses me, the VOSA web is only giving the info about it being legal with certain levels of tint(the light passing through them) and i want to do 70% tint on the back 3 windows(30% of light goes through) and the pass/drivers 50%(so 50%, well with the windows being factory tinted to a 10%-20% that should be fine by me). well in any ways i will do the front ones as they will only cost me a £10 extra, but i just want to know where i'm going to be standing in case i would be stopped by the police... as i know they take dark tints quite seriously, but tbh i dont think mines are going to be that dark
any thoughts would be much appreciated

hmz, all the places that i've been to said that they are 20% at the most, so i could put just a light shade on it, the worst thing is that if i do it will only cost me another £10, but then the question is how hard is to remove the stuff...

i done a lightsmoke all around on my stilo and dark smoke on the windscreen
the police pulled me and put the light meter on the windows, front side windows measured 32% and the windscreen measured 8% VLT
the policeman gave me the option to remove them and not another word about it or carry on and get 3points and £60 fine. needless to say i ripped them straight off!
if i was to tint them again i would do ultra light on the front windows and light smoke on the rear. ultra light is only a 15% tint and looks really classy rather than drug dealer black lol.

thanks esse, but i'll stick with tinting, i'm pretty sure i'll go with 70% on the back and 50% on the front(pass/driver), in that way if there is a law stating that you cant do nothing on the front i'll be fu**, but if it's the old one, where 35% of the light has to pass the window i think i should be fine...
btw ged you had your front ones done aswell???

No prob mate.................On the tint issue the fronts cannot be 50% that would be illegal and you could be fined and asked to remove them on the side of the road if stopped....It is not 35%..Since 2003 front tinted windows have to allow upto 70% light through but on the rears you can go as dark as you want

During a roadside check if the UV meter registers figures better than those mentioned above during a roadside check, there is no problem. If between 45% and 65% of light gets through, the driver is advised to have the tinting removed, failure to do which might result in a prosecution and a fine of up to £2000.

For between 30% and 45% of light transmission the vehicle is assumed to be unfit for use but not to pose an immediate danger. A delayed prohibition is issued and the owner has up to ten days from the date of issue to remove the tint. At less than 30% the legal position is that driving the vehicle would involve a risk of injury, and the vehicle cannot be moved under its own power from the issuing of the prohibition notice until the tint has been removed.

    Hope this helps
