Default how do you make a sub enclosure?

so what is the best way to make one? i want to maximise boot space so want a slimline sub like the pioneer TS-SW1241D but the sub enclosure is £45. :o so would prefer to make one. says it needs to be 5 litres so how do you calculate it? i also want to minimise weight so what is the best/lightest material to use?

ok looks like i got the stats wrong for the pioneer sub:

    Features TS-SW1041D
    Maximum input power 1.000 Watt
    Nominal input power 250 Watt
    Frequency response 20 - 1000 Hz
    Sensitivity (1W/1m) 87 dB
    Woofer size (cm) 25 cm
Woofer material Interlaced Glass/Carbon Fibre reinforced IMPPâ„¢ upper cone
Recommended sealed enclosure (Litres) 17 litres

so how would i go about making an enclosure the right size? and does nominal input power mean the same as rms?

edit: i just found out nip is the same as rms so thats one question over.

does this help re enclosure size, it relates to the above sub:
    Recommended Enclosure Size: 0.15 ~ .5 cu. Ft 0.35 ~ .7 cu. Ft.

oh im wanting to stay with pioneer as thats the make of my h/u and front speakers. ;)

then use a an encloseure calculator to work out the dimentions using the recommended enclosure for the sub (http://www.edesignaudio.com/boxbuilder.php?tab=sealed)

You could always use the dimensions of the Pioneer sub box as your template http://www.pioneer.co.uk/it/products...04S/media.html I think its made from 18mm MDF but to be honest by the time you've bought all the components and materials it may well have cost you the 40 quid the Pioneer enclosure retails for. Are you going to amp the sub and if so which model(s) do you have in mind?
