Cool Inner ware to front tyres

Common problem on the stilo and unknown by many but fiat actually did look at this and issue a service bulletin for it..they where supposed to be redesigning the lower arms but I dont think in the end it happened..if your getting this problem [inner ware ]which is to do with the position and realignment of the lower arms ask you service manager at your dealer about service bulletin 44.01.03..

    Hi Phil,
Is this service bulletin for both front and rear? The reason I'm asking is because my rears are showing signs of inner wear, but at the moment my fronts are fine.

Cool Re: Inner ware to front tyres

This service bulletin was issued for the front Len..its all to do with camber as the stilo was not designed with and adjustable camber setting but a fixed one..if you have inner ware on the rears then that is actually quite the opposite that normally happens..the rears quite often show ware on the out side of the tyres telling us that the tracking on the car is right out..I would suggest you go along to a good reputable tyre company and have the tracking checked..get it done with laser as this is the best way to go on the stilo..

Interesting - how can we get hold of the information contained in the bulletin without the dealer? my fronts are wearing on the inside and if just had my LHS lower arm replaced - need the ARB links doing next I think.

My local garage attempted the modification and made the valid point that if the suspension bushes are in good enough nick the mods (in the Fiat advice note) will be almost impossible to effect....... certainly the case with my car anyway.
Interestingly, with the front strut brace fitted to mine tyre wear at the front has dropped by about 30%..... not gone entirely, but better.

No chance of getting info off fiat Dan in fact they say its not for republication and their eyes only.. what they do by all accounts is to undo the large mounting [circular one ] and push the the lot in from the wheel end to try and effect a more positive camber aspect rather than a negative camber aspect..in other words looking from the front the wheels would look more like \ / rather than / \ thats exaggerated of course and the alteration would only be very slight to alter the camber..and there is another solution if this does not help and if it doesnt then camber bolts can be fitted to make the camber completely adjustable which is what fiat should have done in the first place..with the set up on the stilo at the moment even refitting a top suspension mount incorrectly can throw the camber out cos there is a right and wrong way to fit them to the top of the suspension spring/leg..bloomin fiat..

Shall see over the coming months if the properly tracked RGZ, with lowered suspension and strutbrace wears it's tyres in the same way as it did without all these mods and the tracking. Just put new Dunlops all round (with exception of the back NS, which I changed month before last), as the Pirelli's on the front and original Conti on the back were all down to around 3mm.

Saying that though, apart from problems with the NS rear wear (which was down to a slow puncture and bad tracking), all my tyres have worn evenly throughout the 3 years or so I've had the car. Hell, that Conti as far as I'm aware did all the 38k miles since new and tyre wear was even on that. The Pirelli's at the front were on for around a year and a half to 2 years and again, looked fairly evenly worn.

I dunno, maybe RGZ was the exception to the uneven tyre tread common to Stilo's. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it

Cool Re: Inner ware to front tyres

I think a lot of problems can stem from tracking issues and laser alignment is imperative on the stilo and is a must to start with..other things to note is also that tyre air pressure is very important and its been noted that fiat have got it wrong on many of the forums both here and abroad.. if you are running on the original steel wheels 15" then the 2.3 bar is fine but if you are running on 16" alloys then increase the pressure by 2 psi and for every inch larger in diameter the wheel size goes up increase by a further 2 psi..also I do call into question maybe the use of pattern parts [lower arm ] as they should be built to the exact spec of the genuine part I wonder some times if this is the case and if they aren't then the camber of the wheel [geometry ] will be incorrect from the start and inside wear is going to be inevitable..
