Is it an idea to get a new set for the front aswell? But #¤%@£$ they are expensive. 32 GBP for one side! That's 1/3rd of a caliper...

Can't find anyone selling this product actually. Strange. I might stick to some denatured 96% ethanol, which work fine on my bike's calipers and discs. Or will you advice against that?

Cool Re: Sticky rear caliper / brake pad ?

Hello again from the UK..you can clean up the old anti rattle shims for the front morten ..when I have bought pads and calipers in the past they have very often NOT been supplied with new anyway.some elbow grease and a tooth brush and some thinners should do the job quite nicely and you can use the same to degrease the discs as well.. when do you aim to start the rebuild by the way..?

Ive got those same discs and pads on the fron of my car Morty, very impressed so far with not so much as a hint of squeel.

Let us know how you get on, and dont worry too much about the ABS errors, I went and did mine without any of the correct tools and had one of the calipers off the car and forgot to slacken the handbrake cable off, not even so much. Next time I will be taking PNL's advice and making sure I am proeprly equipped for the job.

Okay. Here are some pictures. First of all, it went well, except the braided hoses... I had bought a Goodride hose kit, which had 4 lines. Didn't think of the non-independent setup of the Stilo's rear axle. We soon found out something was wrong, as the only line that would fit the rear was 3 times too long. Hehe. Anyway, that one was mounted just to test it with the new calipers. Major thanks for sending the calipers over, Mr. Peril. I am now in search of a pair of brake lines for the rear calipers, as those mounted will go at the front. Some extra work then.

This is one dead caliper. Notice the piston is almost on its way out. The pads were worn to the metal. Ooops. No wonder it failed the MOT.

Rear hub. The ABS ring was cleaned with a dry cloth, as it had about 7 mm of crap on it. It's magnetic so metal dust was totally surrounding it. Can't imagine it was fully operational at all.

Much nicer setup. New caliper, disc and pads. Notice the too long brake hose which will be put on the front caliper - let's say within a month then... perhaps.

Front hub with caliper. Cableties are worth a million. :)

Front hub without caliper. Nice tool, the hose clamp.

As mentioned by Dan, this combination of brakes (pads / discs) are very good. I clearly remember the first brake test we did after driving 150 km or so. Doing 80 km/h (about 50 mph perhaps) and full lock. We were hanging in our seatbelts. The ABS nearly didn't kick in as quality tires really make a difference. I have never had such a braking experience since I was driving my friends 911 some years ago. The ABS had some minor strikes, but basically the Guigiuaro designed Vredesteins (at 2.7 bar) combined with Eibach's setup and OMP' strutbrace in addition to the EBC greenstuff pads and matching discs really made my day.

Been waiting with baited breath for the return post from you Morten..WOW!!! those calipers are really in a right old state..looks as tho the Norweigen winters have not been to friendly to your stilo..but it seems to have gone quite well for you except for the hoses as you say..on here somewhere is a post from me about balance motorsport..the owners name is julian and he supplied the hoses for me for my stilo 5dr..he even went to the trouble of buying a standard set from fiat and supplying them to his supplier just to make sure the braided ones were correct in all details he absorbed the cost of that in R&D and I never got charged for it..if you still want hoses now then maybe try him for them..got to say it he gave me top service were others like goodritch failed ..nice pics and goood info from you once again mate nice to hear that the stilo now actually stops you as well..

Also a big thankyou to red peril on here who is yellow peril on f/f..many thanks for the help you gave Morten Phil with the shipping of the parts..

    Thanks for that Phil.

I've managed to get contact with a very friendly guy at Earl's motorsport. www.earls.co.uk He could supply 4 rear hoses for the Stilo and I have just asked him if it is possible to order the pair for the calipers only. Am still awaiting answer. He also removed VAT before giving me the price, as he knew Norway is outside the EU - and that is almost a miracle. Even before I asked about it.

I will tell you how it works out.

Anyway, on day 2 and 3 I had major brake squeal. Dogs barked, and pedestrians almost jumped on the pavement when I did slow braking downtown. It was very loud and annoying. It all went away after a hard drive on the highway with some braking. I forgot to lube the pad clips on the front, which will be done when I change the hoses, so it won't come back.

    Regards, Morten.

Bit of a bonus when you get a supplier that knows about the shipping arangments to places outside the EU..lol..no big deal with the slight error ..ie forgetting to add copper grease to the front caliper anti rattle clips..I will forgive you his time..this must have saved you a small fotune in garage labour costs by the way..I dread to think what it would have cost you over there in Norway ..did you by any chance get a quote for the work from a garage ?

this is a link to balance motorsport should anyone need it.. http://www.balancemotorsport.co.uk/

Partially. Noone would give me an exact quote as they estimated things would be stuck etc. No garage had the correct windback tool (not even Fiat) and noone was very eager to do the job as wanted to buy the parts myself - so no responsibility. Anyway, I've paid about £450 GBP for 4 grooved discs, 4 set of EBC pads, 4 (!) braided hoses, 2 rear calipers, o'special caliper windback tool, fluids and grease, shipping, VAT and a small bonus to my suppliers. So I guess about £500 when I get the last hoses. That's for parts only.

In Norway, £500 wouldn't be enought for two calipers - reconditioned (Bosch) by aftermarket suppliers. And I haven't asked for a quote at Fiat yet. Anyway, estimated total value of the above from NOK would be £1650 GBP. And that's plain discs and pads. Beware, OEM parts at Fiat is usually 50% more expensive, so a total at the Fiat garage would at least be £2000 GBP. And this is without the work. We used about 6 hours (amateurs) on four wheels including bleeding, and learning (aha! this is how it works, lets check some more - sproing... oops! and so on)... So lets say they would use about 4 hours at £130 GBP per hour would total up to over £500 GBP - if I was lucky.

So conclusion. I did save a lot of cash. Time for a beer I think.
