how hard is it to fit new brake pads?
hi,
i\'ve just bought a pair of brake pads to front and rear, as i\'ve gone thru the fiatforum it is quite impossible to change the rear ones without knowing what youre doing and right tools, but what about the front ones?
i\'m thinking to get the rear ones changed in a ats euromaster as they quoted about 20 quid for the job and do the front ones myself...?
any suggestions or pointers would be brilliant as i havent done anything like that before.
thanks;)

You need to push back the pistons on the front calipers and could damage the front abs sensors if you dont do it correctly ie fluid flowing backwards trough the sensors could naff them up..saying that though I did do the job once on mt 5 door and just pushed the pistons back without clamping the brake hoses and undoing the bleed nipples and got away with it..but i wont say do it that way in case it naffs up the abs sensors in yours..

I just did my son-in-laws in 1 hour all around yesterday.
It's not hard with the right tools. I've bought the Nut to wind back the rear calipers some years ago and it works like a charm.
Oh and I leave the topbolt in (just loosened 1 or 2 turns) you can even push the piston (on the font) with your bare hands.....

iv never clamped the hoses, or done the bleed nipples, just undid the the lid then set too and did the fronts, pushed the pistons back and no issues, but be very gentle, need a hefty rachet too, as some of the nuts are very very tight
but yeah dont try and you will never learn, but if you havnt done it before id get a friend around that has too watch, i watched my mate do it on all his cars then he did mine, and now iv done them ever since.
never touching the rears again, did once and got stuck and had to call the aa to get the pistons on the rears pushed back in as my mate thought it would be a good idea to push on the brake pedal
