    Question engine management

Upon driving my car to work this morning the engine management light and warning came on and the car is now shurrdering when I'm driving it. I have a few clues as to what it might be but would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem. I have it booked into fiat for a diagnostic test but we all know dealers they say this needs fixing and that needs fixing just to get money from you. If anyone can help I would appreciated it.

Its a 2004 and 1.4, I spoke to my brother this morning who is a mechanic and he said the same thing but I'm thinking it could be one of the sensors.

Only way to confirm if its the sensors will be a diagnostic ..but tbh they some times dont come up with the real cause of the problem..wizza had a fault on his 1.6 which came up injectors 1 and 3 and the diagnostic confirmed this ..fault was still there after the very expensive replacement of both of those injectors and it was found [by him ] that when he replaced some of the coils the car miraculously ran correctly.. so some times its good to just change a few things to rule them out before hand .. a simple test with your brother can rule out if the coils are to fault or not..

Only problem is I don't want to spend out on little things hoping its that and find out it wasn't them, my brother lives in london and I'm near newcastle I told him what was wrong over the phone and he came up with that conclusion.

Jut buying one coil will do you just need to take one off and replace it with a good one ..if the engine shows no improvement then move on to the next one ..and the next one ..and finally the last one if its a coil then it will show up and you have saved yourself some considerable cost at fiat dealer .. and if not you got yourself a spare one for when the time comes..Dave has some going for £15 each over on f/f classifieds.. grab a bargain ..

i bet the plugs wernt needed either, the ignition coils are the coils so really if you got the single coil from ff you could have saved yourself £140, but as you say thats not to bad from a dealer, the test at £80 is sounds a little steep though.

    glad you got it sorted

i needed the plugs as when i did the service in february i didnt change them, it is abit steep for the check but the price to fix it was quite good considering its a main dealer. thanks for your help everybody.
