No air from dash vents, fan working
I have a Stilo 1.9 JTD 115BHP MW, the fans is working on all levels 1-4, air can come out of the footwells, I have removed the pollen filter behind the r\hand panel (this was black and full of fluff on one side\clean on the other), but can still not get any air from the main dashboard vents at all.
The air direction controls `softly` clicks from postion to position, but should there be more resistance as it moves the rods\cogs etc. behind the centre console?
Could it simply be the fascia control not connecting to the spindle of the control? Or do I have to remove the entire heater assembly?
Hope someone can help, I cant demist the windscreen, and things are getting too stuffy unless I open the windows. Steve.

Hi, thanks for your replies, the car does not have air con and I have removed the pollen filter which was dirty black\dusty on one side, but this has not helped.
I found a post somewhere, can`t remember where, which said that the recirculation flap (directs air from outside or only lets air re-circulate inside car) could be stuck, they think that this stops the other flaps etc from working as well? Aparanty is is located at the bottom of the unit where the pollen filter is located.

yeah, its a white mechanism, its white plastic, and it slides up and down, and yeah it does get stuck, mine got stuck half way, so was like being breathed on by an asthmatic mouse
and i think my alfa is doing the same (same mechanism)

Re: No air from dash vents, fan working
Hi, Red Devil, thanks for the reply, I cant see or feel anything underneath where the pollen filter goes in, and the only white (or any colour) mechanism I can see is connected\operated by the hot\cold setting dial on the left of the 3 controls on the dash, this is moving fine.
The speed setting 1-4 control works fine, but I cannot hear\feel any movements when the button to operate the outside air\inside re-circulation motor is pressed either.
I removed the ashtray and could just about reach up behind the climate control panel to the back of the air direction control, and could not feel any rods\linkages connected to the back, I could feel a thin, strong, bare wire sticking out though? I hope to get some DIN tools then remove the radio and try and access\remove the control from above, I still think the problem may be with the air direction control?
If you could show me a pic of the white sliding re-circulation flap below the pollen filter, so I could check it, as I can't feel anything at all.
Thanks, Steve.

no mate its my fault, i was thinking of the direction thing the white one in front of the pollen filter that does the hot and cold.
does the air speed change, ya know you can hear the sound of the air change when the recirculter is pressed?
i think there is a flap right at the back of the vents but you need to get the dash vents out anyway.
ill do more digging mate, and get some pics of the whole heater control mechanism

Re: No air from dash vents, fan working
Hi Red-Devil,
No problem, thanks very much for the help, I'll keep you informed of my progress here, I will work on it on my day off on Wednesday.
The fan speed does not alter at all when I press the re-circulation button, nor can I hear the motor operating, or any relay clicking? The wiring diagram\system description on the eLearn system I downloaded from the FS-OC, indicates that the re-circulation flap is operated by a motor, and that the hot\cold and air direction controls are mechanical, but I can feel a thin metal bare wire sticking out from the back of the air direction control towards the speed selector, that does not seem to connect to anything and I cannot feel or see any rods\bars etc., moving even when I look at the back of the centre fascia using a torch (viewed from the passenger or drivers footwell after I removed the two console side panels)
Thanks again, Steve.

Re: No air from dash vents, fan working
Hi, thought I would give an update as so many of you replied so kindly. I removed the radio & ashtray but could not see anyway of removing the heater control panel as the two top, and two bottom fixing `lugs` attached to the heater panel were behind the dashboard. But I managed to turn it at an anlge enough to get my fingers behind the air distribution control, there was a white quadrant nylon gear which was attached to the wire rod but had come out of a hole in the back of the heater panel. I pushed it back in but there seems to be no `click` of any sort holding it in place. All is now fine, I have left the control set to the `feet and windscreen demisting` setting in case it comes loose again.
I am going to get a new nylon quadrant gear as I assume some retaining clips should have been on the end of the spindle which pushes into the back of the heater panel, but I could not see anything broken.
I am going to replace the two illumination lamps and the one in the ashtray as well whilst I have it all pulled out, but I really would like to be able to get the heater control panel out properly.
Many thanks again, Steve.
