Its possible to suck in air due to heat and expansion but I think its the concentric to blame here anyway..as you have the clutch master cylinder anyway it wouldnt be a bad idea to change that as well..also check all pipes leading to all hydraulic cylinders for damage and possible air ingression from those as well..rule everything out as you dismantle and rebuild..
By the way ..is the box manual or silly speed..?.. if its silly speed your in for one hell of a job getting the box out from what my mate has told me..

Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders
Myself had exactly the same thoughts as Nige 44. I have changed the master as well, checked pipes, connectors and everything else that associate with the clutch exept for the concentric due to location of unit.
I agree with Phil, concentric slave can cause to draw air the way Phil explaned. I am at this stage planning a gearbox drop to change the concentric together with the clutch system. Mine is manual 5 speed box so it will be a tad easier. Carefull thought and planning need to be done, removing the drive shafts, engine safely supported when removing the box and so on.
The only way is going to be a concentric change.........
Phil please can you let me know if there is a diagram with the technical info to remove the 2.4 gearbox together with torgue settings and so on available at FS-OC or perhaps where I can purchase a workshop manual from....
Best Regards

Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders
Well I have been watching post made on a few forums about this problem with air entering the clutch system. What RayV has described is exactly what I have and what i am experencing on my schi .
I am going to change the clutch master next week just to see if it is changes any thing. I am starting to think there is a problem with the slave cylinder as when bleeding the system the fluid coming out of the slave is grey in colour and giving I bleeding the system on average once a week I would expect to be clear.
So can any one tell me the best way to drop the GEAR BOX please?

Quite a long winded job involving disconnecting mountings/ linkages/ sensors/drive shafts from the diff many bolts around the bell housing of the box ..dont tell me you havnt downloaded the elearn disc yet..

Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders
Okay i had a look at the manual and its saying take the engine out complete. Is this the best way to do it or is there an easier way .
On the 1.8 it sound like it can be done from underneath . Is the 2.4 gearbox that different.

Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders
The funny thing is that my Abarth clutch system is behaving itself at the moment! No bleeding for a Month now.
I am still planning to drop the box as said in these forum. The engine can stay but one have to secure or support the engine safely!!! This can be a problem if you do not have the clearance underneath the car.
I do have a frend with a pit in his garage that makes it easier.
I am still planning........

Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders
get yourself a few straps and put them around the engine and if you have a strut brace strap the engine to that to take the weight
