Tech"s (Fiat) in South Africa do not know about the pressure bleed method! Scary!

Any way, as you know the story about my Stilo clutch pressure issue, it started again Yesterday.

What I do not understand is that air enter the clutch without leaks in the system. I am hunting for florecent fluid to try and pick up any cracks or anything showing signs that can cause the air to enter.

Is it possible that the concentric slave can drag some air without leaking fluid?

The other strange part I do not understand is if the Stilo is not used for 3 to 4 days air enter the system in a hurry. Using it daily will keep the air out for weeks......

    More thoughts?

Perhaps I need to plan for contentic slave change after all. (not using the S.A.
    Mechanics, another scary thought)

    Best Regards

    Ray

Cool Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders

Aww crap here we go again.. and I am not in the least surprised the techs in S.A. dont know..in fact some of the after market producers dont recommend a pressure bleed either..I am thinking its down to posible ware and tare on your concentric now Ray and that is where the air may be getting into the system and it looks as though its going to have to be changed [if thats the case]..the pressure bleed is one recommended by fiat when using fiat parts ..so they need to pull their bloomin fingers out and get up to date on method and procedure.. sickening part for you is its going to mean a gearbox out job so for the sake of sanity and cost it wont pay to cut corners ..so its a complete clutch and concentric for you me laddo and a pretty penny no doubt..

    Another possibility is this..

Look at number 1 on the diag..its a clutch cylinder and where your clutch pedal connects to..air can also enter through this as well so get up and under the pedal box to see if you have a weeping there as well Ray..

Many thanks Phil! you would not believe what we have to put up with in S.A with tech's They do not care Phil !

I dit change the clutch cylinder number 1 (master) as per your diag about 3 months ago. I am starting to wonder if the new part (genuine Fiat part) is perhaps faulty.

I do agree with you that if I am going to do the concentric it will be a complete change.

Time will tell. I will keep you posted.

Many thanks agian Phil for all your valuable advice and information.

May I ask if you would mind if I keep on bugging you for information when I do start the project to drop the gearbox ?

    Best Regards

    Ray

    HiAll

I have the same problem with a schumacher with only 14k on it . Clutch will go for weeks then air enters the system. If it is the slave i would expect it to go again within a few hours of driving it .

Now here is a werid thing !.When goin up hill it gets far worse than when driving on the flat .

Would love to know what it is .

Cool Re: Concentric clutch slave cylinders

I was talking to my mate yesterday who is a D.E.T at my local dealers..he finds that he gets better results from manual bleeding when bleeding the clutch but has done it with a pressure system ..manual bleeding has taken him as many as 25 goes at it to get pressure ..he said there is also a spring in the master cylinder that snaps and this can give you a half pedal feel on the clutch pedal..who ever thought up the idea of using a common fluid reservoir for both clutch and brakes wants their head red..

Maybe you [NIGE 44] have bubbles in the line and have them moving around when you go up hills..you have the spirit leval effect on your clutch..

    Thanks for that Phil!
My case I found the pressure bleed work 100%

{NIGE 44} I agree with the Wise one (PNL) it sounds like you have some bubbles moving around. Good bleeding of the Clutch system will be the starting point.

There is threads that do cover the bleed process of the clutch. Search for " bleeding the clutch"
    Hope this will help.

Have to say i have tried bleeding the system completly but still comes back with air in the system after a few days .

I have a new clutch master which i am looking at fitting but i just cannot get my head around the fact i am not losing any fluid at all and the pressure will go then come back .

    Why is this?.
