Laptop Software for service reset
Dan I have two elms the 323 and 327 also I have a KKL which I have used on my Marea 110JTD with KWP71 to clear the airbag light. I have a few programs like UnidiagKWP2000 which I believe from my travels needs def files but I havent found yet where I am to get them from plus I cant find any instructions for it to see what it does. I have Scantool.net dont know what that can do either. Also I have Alfadiag Demo version havent tried it yet thatl probably be limited with being a demo. I have no doubt youl be familar with these but all this stuff is new to me and its a bit like an old dog learning new tricks. I did read somewhere on the Alfaowners forum some of the Alfas can have the service light reset by using a series of +- on the mode console wether it would work or not on the Stilo is another thing. Nearly forgot if you can help with software for laptop for service light removal that would absolutely tremendous.
Edit~ found def files on the Unidag forum mustnt of been looking but still havent found any instructions.

Re: Laptop Software for service reset
Ok mate, Ill try and help. Ive used kwp2000test/unidiag for quite some time, with variable success.
Unidiag is for talking to pre-eobd cars with a simple level shifter adapter. I use a cable I built myself so the connection options may not be the same. It should work file with your KKL cable.
The definition files contain the scaling data and parameters for extra functions such as RPM/distance reading, as each ecu uses different scaling and suppors different functions.
eg.
ME1.5.5 response * 0.1 = ECU odomoter reading in KM.
To connect to the car
Open unidiag and then at the top of the screen you will see Open Definition file - open the one relevant to your cars ecu (if there is one, or just open a 731 simple).
Then go to the connect part. Choose the correct com port. With my diy interface I have to enable 'Set DTR' to power my circuit, if you didnt use that option doing your airbag with kwp71 you wont have to.
Once youve done that just click 'Start Comm 2000' and then at the top of the screen click 'Start + ID' - that will connect to the cars ecu and retrieve the ID data from it, to view it go to identification - to read the DTC status go to Diagnose.
The problem with incorrect definitions only comes into play when you use realtime select/graph as the program doesnt know how to interpret what it is recieving.
I personally found unidiag a bit unstable on my laptop, so I ended up using an earlier program called kwp2000test, which is basically an older version of unidiag without realtime data and definition files.
Unidiag will work on most/all fiats from about 97 on I believe - so should be good for your marea and stilo. kwp71diag worked fine on my Stilo airbags too.
Scantool.net Ive got but never bothered with it, I used to use pcmscan but then ditched that too. They are quite limited in what they can do with european vehicles.
Hope the above makes sense, if not post back and when I can ill get out in the car and take some screenshots etc..
Oh yeah, your last question - Im writing a service reset tool for PIC at the moment and have a bare bones .net application which I can certainly knock up into a service reset tool for Windows if needs be - should only take a week.. You will need an ELM327 v1.3 or higher though.
Dan
EDIT: Ive zipped up Unidiag & Fiat/Alfa definitions, KWP71, KWP2000test and a schematic.
You can download it here in the Diagnostic Utilities thread here

Re: Laptop Software for service reset
Thanks for your quick reply with info and instruction Ill try it out when it stops raining cause Ill have to use mains extension cable, laptop battery is knackered. I have found this program called Hyper Snap 6 it will save anything you have on the screen saves writing stuff down.Like the KWP71 Unidiag dosent look as though you can save the info not that I could do anything with it but it looks good. Thanks again Dan youre a gem.
Edit- my Elm 327 is 1.3a

Re: Laptop Software for service reset
Dan I think youre right about the UNIDIAG being a bit I would say fickle Icouldnt get much out of it. Ive put these pics on of what I did get anyhow, couldnt get anything on Diagnose, Realtime Select or Realtime Graph but there again I was a case of click and hope. I have cleared my airbag light before with the KWP71 Diagnostic but does this do a engine diag if so is there any settings it needs to be on. I find it a bit strange for to be no instructions on how to use these.Ill have to put the pics up when I remember how to reduce the size too many mbs.
He who works and does his best
gets his cards just like the rest

Re: Laptop Software for service reset
Hi Johnson,
I used to get loads of errors with it, it would blue screen my laptop (which had never blue screen before) - so I gave up on it. I reverted back to KWP2000test. KWP2000test does read/clear DTC's but it doesnt do the realtime data like unidiag does/should.
KWP71 does do diagnostics on some cars that use the protocols it uses, but Fiat isnt one of them (it uses KWP2000).
I would give KWP2000test a try.
Alternatively, if you can use hyperterminal, I can tell you how to retrieve/clear the codes using the ELM327.
