    Unhappy Rear heater

On saturday my rear window shattered and when the guy came out to repair it he said that it could have been the heater in the glass becasue there was no piont of impact.......has anyone ever come acrosss this and how would i check if the heater is faulty?

i take it your heated window - this will be replaced when you replace the glass as its a part of it. i really cant see the elements causing a glass to break - there wouldnt be enough heat in the filaments also if it was fault y at the time they would either blow the elements or blow a fuse.
    most likely someone has vandalised.
ive seen glass go with out any impact area when the boots are closed on somthing and twists the boot slightly. the metal will give but glass wont.

Tbh, sounds like a load of rubbish. I take it the screen shattered but never fell in on its self, meaning it stayed in place with no hole to suggest a stone etc.

Could have been caused by a footbal, i've seen it a few times, a large enough yet blunt object can shatter the screen, but not smash it.

Never ever ever ever, heard of a rear heater breaking a screen in these circumstances, unless your Stilo is diverting 100000000000000volts to it. (You know what the Italian electrics are like so i suppose it is possible)

agree with Rob, it can only shatter in subzero temps, but highly unlikely. probably a football or something

I have heard of side windows randomly shattering, but still a rare occurrence. If there was a flaw in the glass or some defect, it could have been weakened somehow and maybe shattered due to some change in temperature or maybe even a random bump or something. Of course, that's all just one big guess really.

As has been said, I've never heard of the rear screen spontaneously explode like that on the Stilo, nor really any other car.

Some pillock with an air / BB gun possibly then. Perhaps not penetrating the glass, but enough to shatter it???
