RGZ passes MOT with flying colours, but then decides to throw a wobbly
Yup, she passed with flying colours. Not even an advisory, which is more than can be said when comparing it to last year's visit. Admittedly, last MOT it was just a drop link that needed replacing and she didn't fail, but this is the first one she's passed with a clean bill of health.
Anyway, got to the garage and saw RGZ was in the garage with an OBD reader plugged in, "Oh dear" I thought. Went in and the garage owner explained to me that they'd done the MOT, all was well until just after the emissions test and for some reason the engine warning light came on. Last time I got this was when the battery started fecking up, which I said to him. But on this occasion it's totally different as she's having trouble starting. The diagnostic says it's a problem with a cam sensor, but as the garage owner pointed out, it's giving a reading on the meter, so it's still functioning. Couldn't delete it on the system either, which was slightly baffling the guy.
So, long and short of it is that RGZ's going back in (at no extra charge to me of course) tomorrow but she'll be getting picked up and I'll get a courtesy car. Probably a nice Alfa GTV as that's what the garage uses. MOT was also free as the garage owner felt obligated to give me some compensation after there were issues delaying the return of my car after a new cambelt was fitted. Don't think you'd get that kind of service from most dealers.
I swear, nothings ever easy with RGZ, but at least I now have an understanding garage that won't charge me for everything under the sun

Firstly mate, well done on the pass, i know what its like with a Stilo on MOT time, its a nervous wait, as thought the mechanic is going to come out and say "congrats Mister its a boy", but nonetheless
You found what appears to be a decent garage so
NAME THEM

Cheers and yup, concur with you on those points. Especially after the Arnold Clark Fiat Dealership took me for over £600 in 2007
The garage I use now is CM Garage Services in East Kilbride. Seriously brilliant service and the staff never belittle the customer. They're usually incredibly busy due to the demand for their services but they'll go out of their way to help out a customer. Hell, I remember when I said to the guy in charge (who usually does the work on RGZ) I was fitting my strutbrace in the next few days. He gave me the bolts I'd been searching for, free of charge. Can't recommend them enough

nice one mate, my stilo also flew through the last MOT but i think it'll be a different story on the 10th October. need to get wishbones fitted and figure out what that strange rattle is in the back, might be a spring

Cheers. See with the rattling, guessing it couldn't be the bushes as you've just replaced them. Couldn't be an exhaust mount or something even? Oh well, hope you get it all sorted and cheaply.

Thanks, yeah I do try and take care of her. Probably the best thing I did was to stop going to my dealer for repairs. Almost do more harm than good in my opinion.
Saying that though, the new exhaust has meant I'm a little heavier on the right foot these days, but only when the engine's warmed up of course. Hell, even then I don't often go past 4000rpm, just enough to get the sweeter sound RGZ makes now

Thanks. It is nerve racking for sure. The MOT wasn't due till the 26th, but decided to do it now in case anything did need doing...always sensible I feel. It's one of the only reasons I'd consider getting a car new or nearly new though. The stress of an MOT is always a nightmare even if, like me, you've taken every precaution beforehand and done all the small jobs that can often result in a fail if not done.
Good luck with yours by the way. I'm sure she'll be fine.
