    Default rear number plate questions

    hello chaps.

getting my private plate put on the old girl shortly but when i was looking at the rear plate i noticed that it was stuck to the rear door, so a few questions

    1) is it just a case of ripping the old one off or do i need to do anything special.

    2) are there screw holes in the MW door or is it stick on only?

    3) has anyone tried using number plate holders, want to jazz it up a bit but i want to make sure that they're safe to use.

    cheers

Going from my 3dr, there are "screw points" where screws for the numberplate should be used. Mine originally just had 2 random screws shoved through the metal work by the dealer AND it wasn't centred - means that now I have them stuck on, there's a slight bit where it needs resprayed *rolls eyes*

Anyway though, if there's no visible screws it'll just be stuck on. Best thing to do is get some hot soapy water in a bucket and thoroughly drench the numberplate. This will make it easier to remove the sticky pads and numberplate itself. If you don't, the number that's on could be damaged. Also, remove any residue left by the pads and make sure the surface is completely clean if you decide to use pads again - gives a better stick if the surface is clean after all. Personally, I'd clean the surface as best I could while the plate was off while you get the chance to do so anyway, even if you are going to use screws.

Never tried number plate holders myself, I just don't like the style of them. I presume from what I've seen though that either pads or screws would be fine for them too.

    Hope that helps

    cheers for that.

i've ordered the holders as i think they wil do exactly what i need.

if they arrive in time and i can get up to the dvla in time i'll give the rear plate a good soaking and remove and fit the new ones.
