abarth "loose connection"
Good evening all,,,can anyone explain possible fault/cause
"loose connection" popped up again and car will not start ,untill that is, if the car is in neutral put one foot out of the door and move the car backwards a couple of inches, loose connection disappears and car starts (first discoverd this as car was away to be towed and had to move car back)
Normally when i park up i leave the car in 1st switch off and car slightly rolles forward as i tend not to put on handbrake
I know it sounds strange but 3 times now same problem same remedy,,you know when something is strange so you try it again just to be sure
could it be the crankcase sensor ? any thoughts before i go back to the garage thanks

Re: abarth "loose connection"
Firstly check some connections. Do this by disconnecting and reconnecting them or at worst giving them a firm push.

I would check both connections with the ECU, which is mounted to the upper right hand side of the engine. You could also check the D4 which is at the back of the battery near the fusebox, this is a large multiway connector which can get damp quite easily because of its location.
Finally, the selespeed ECU is beneath the footrest in the passenger footwell, this can easily be removed so the connection to this can also be checked.
Im sure others have info too on other connections in the car that can be checked, I would try these before a trip back to the garage.
Let us know how you get on.#

Re: abarth "loose connection"
Just an update
Have checked all the points listed and only one was noticably loose and that was the ecu for the selespeed ,when i pushed it down the "slider" moved all the way in to secure position ,(you would have thought it would be secured as the under bonnet ones are) anyway having to constant drive over speed humps in my street caused this ,and only one metal bracket on the bottom right hand corner ? nut was loose so have replaced with a locking nut ,after doing all this still had the "loose connection" message and car not starting so
Had new crankshaft sensor delivered ,and when i removed old one, it was badly worn in that the magnetic "pin/tip" was totally gone and slightly resest into the housing covered in oil and scored , no wondered it only worked intermitently ,anyway car fired up first time ,
so well chuffed with my handy work and thanks for the input guys
