Bonnet Fuse Box?
Hi. Having trouble with my Stilo but not quite sure if its all related or bad coincidence. Went out to the car yesterday after having driving it about 2 hours before and I heard a clicking noise from the bonnet. So I opened her up and found it was the red relay on the lower left of the fuse box. I tried swapping them round and it was still that slot clicking. I then opened up the relay and held the switch across which caused the radiator fan to click on. Tried starting the car and I get "ASR Failure" "Car Security Failure" "Loose Connection" warnings. This happens no matter if the relay clicks or the fan is on. Although with the fan on I also get "High Coolant Temp" warnings. Possible water in box? Its at 2002 1.6 16v. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Have you checked your battery recently or how old is it?
If you have a multimeter to hand read the battery voltage on a cold morning before driving if possible. Other than that check your D4 multiway connector and make sure its dry as well as the two ECU connections.

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Yeh I checked the battery both last night and this morning. Both readings were 12.56v.
Ive taken out the Fuse Box and checked all the contacts and plugs and they seem okay. Im thinking maybe the ECU or fused box innerds might have gotten wet?

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Check the D4 connector underneath the fuse box. Disengage the connectors and dry them out if needs be with a hairdryer or something.
This connector carries lots of signals from around the car so it one of the usual suspects. Do the same with your fusebox, dry it right out.
It really does sound like the ECU connections. I was mucking around with my car a few months ago and had to connect something inside one of those ecu connectors. Anyway when the ignition was on I got the lot - ASR, SECURITY, LOOSE CONNECTION, ENGINE FAULT, AIRBAG you name it.
Double check the ECU connections and the D4 and then take it for a run - it will take you all of 10 minutes.

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Cheers Ill give that ago. I checked the fuse box connections but didnt check that one. Is it in the gap below the fused box? Theres a fair few in that area.

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Ive checked out that plug and it seems dry enough. The local garage want to check the compression because it doesnt fire but personally I think this is a waste of time as it wont fire with car security failure?

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
Have you checked the ECU connections? That would be the one last thing I would do.
They are simple enough to move and replace. And dont worry about your ECU getting wet. The backs are sealed to prevent anything getting in, and on the inside they are set in like a rubbery silicone stuff to steop anything going wrong.

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
My friend down at garage used to work for Fiat and hes now suggesting it could be the Crank sensor knocking everything out? All the connections are bone dry.

Re: Bonnet Fuse Box?
I think to confirm crank sensor fault I would want the ecu read and the fault code retrieved..that would give you intermittent starting problems and not related to the problem you are having at the moment..
