    Default JTD 115 TB Gasket

hey, first of all thanks to mike for his guide on removing/cleaning TB on a JTD 115, i would have post this there but its been closed :-(.

any way i went into my local fiat to get the gasket between manifold and tb (part number 46547895) and they've told me that this part is no longer available.. ever!, which we both thought was odd as it was for an 05 plate stilo. They sugested that i make my own (not sure how...) or to use gasket seal, has any one done this and have any advice? would id be putting the gasket seal around the old gasket and just re-using it or would i be throwing the old one out and just sealing around where the gasket should sit?

    cheers

Cool Re: JTD 115 TB Gasket

First off as its the throttle body I would be careful using sealants you dont want sealant getting into your intake..making gaskets is an easy thing to do..

[1] Take the old one and draw around it leaving the shape to be cut out with a pair of scissors or craft knife..

[2] Before fitting the new one make sure both the throttle body and manifold flanges are spotlessly clean or the gasket wont sit correctly and it will leak between them and draw in air no doubt bring up a nice warning light beep beep beep..

Have a search on line for a company that sells the card or cork used in gasket making..must be someone that sells the stuff..

Last resort but have you tried shop4parts?

They have some stuff for the old bravo JTD's etc so it might be worth getting in touch with them, they may have one Shop4Parts

    Very cheap too.

WOOT!, never made your own Gaskett,
There goes a member with a sheltered life.
I remember using all sorts of stuff to make my own gasketts for my old cars.
My proudest and effective moment was managing to fit in the head of teh Kelloggs cornflake chicken on the gaskett i made out of the box for my Nissan Sunny Thermostat housing.

Well its simple mate, but some of the gaskett / card and using the only one as a templete draw around it onto the gaskett paper / card.

then carefully cut out using a sharp kife.

Personally i would be a over generous on the out edges.

If you do use Gaskett sealer to assist, make sure you allow it to cure a bit and dont use too much, becasue you dont want any of it blowing through into your chambers.

A little smear to assist the gaskett paper/card wont go amiss, BUT, make sure you sue the correct type.
I've always found the Blue head gaskett / water proof sealant from Halfords works great, and its only about £5 for a decent sive tube.

    Good luck pal

    thanks for the replies,

probably be best to make my own then, what thickness of paper should i go for, do i have to worry about any criteria like high temperature?

what are the original gaskets made from, metal? will there be any issues using this gasket paper, like will it deteriate over time or anything?

    cheers
