Re: I do hope my gearbox isn't on its way out!
Fiat boxes are not the strongest 1.2/4 are and do have problems with synco and selectors have known both to just blow up on the owner..1.6 has problems as well with a dodgey diff and Roy has been on the sharp side of that one..1.8 seems to be quite good not heard to much about that one..the 2.4 manual boxes..red devil went through two of those and the silly speed one well say no more..countless problems and can be expensive to replace and repair..

Grrr. Oh Well. I'll stick with it for now. Last Panda 4x4 3rd gear syncro was none existant, so just back to the old times now then lol.
Looks like I'll upgrade recovery also as if gearbox blows in Norwich I'll be a little stuck. lol.

The 2.4 silly and manual is the same box, just with pneumatic actuation. Nothing wrong with the boxes, tends to be the support electronics and sensors that fail them.
Hear lots about problems with the 1.6 and smaller engined models though.

Yet strange enough you dont hear many gripes about the JTD..so i guess its a tough S.O.B..would need to be I suppose with the torque it delivers..

Re: I do hope my gearbox isn't on its way out!
And there was I thinking that the 1.2 and 1.4 had reliable set-up's
So where would be next step then? Would it be replacement box, or get the current one re-con'ed?
What about if I look at taking out a warrentee on the car as it's not actually causing any major problems yet to when it does its covered?

Re: I do hope my gearbox isn't on its way out!
im on my 3rd box, i wouldn't bother recondtioning the box as i just threw mine in the skip i just bought 2nd hand boxes. VERY VERY hard to get a 6speed for the 1.2, AFAIK the 1.2 & 1.4 box is different as i could have got litterally 10 or 20 1.4 boxes and only got 1 1,2 box after a couple of months of looking.
but if you can get the box reconditioned cheaply i'd do it as yours only sound to be synchro problem
