I know that whenever the battery gets disconnected, the car goes into retard mode. I should've learnt by the last time but the airbag wasn't on correctly. Teaches me to leave the car the hell alone lol

Alright for some lol!
Does anyone have a negative terminal spare in good condition? I can't get anything ordered till monday but was hoping to at least secure something sooner?

You looking for cable connectors mate..
Battery terminals connector 12v car van hgv boat BRASS on eBay (end time 11-Feb-10 19:26:30 GMT)
Probably get them in frauds as well..

Thanks for the link Phil, but it's a different type of connector on mine. It's the same as on the control branch unit and as I didn't want to cut the cable to change the connector, I'll try and source the original lol.
This is probabily another thing that isn't folding well in my favour... Most of the parts as specialist.
I'm alot more calmer now than I was earlier lol!I'll get another battery and a new negative lead from the specialist near me and fit them both and hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll spare it until it mucks up again lol

Have to say I do know how you feel. I've had problems with RGZ and on many an occasion it's cost a small fortune to sort out. But then I stopped using the main dealer and it wasn't so bad
There's many a thing I need to sort on mine, that's for sure but I don't (at the moment) seem to be having as many glaring and "need to be sorted asap" issues as you're having. I remember one time with mine, I put it in for a simple MOT at Arnold Clark and it came back with a £633 bill - learned a lesson there, the dealer will take you for everything you've got if it's out of warranty.
Loads of cars have their issues and quite often you can just be unlucky and get a bad'un. Everyone says it's limited to Italian and French cars, but I've seen plenty of Honda's and Nissan's have a tonne of problems. The Stilo is a flawed car, but in a way I still rather like mine - like most Italian cars, it's got character
Hope you get your problems sorted soon as though![]()
Thanks mate! I hope it get it sorted out too!I do love the look of the car and to be totally honest, I've looked at other cars and nothing comes close. Sure it'll have better build quality and be cheaper but it just doesn't look as nice. I'm going to replace the battery and the negative terminal and see what happens. The terminal melted the lead from the battery so yeah, it's in diar need of a change lol!
There just has to be a cut off point where you think to yourself that it's not worth spending loads to get so little back. I never go to a dealer for anything, thats a rule with me. Nine times out of ten they don't have a clue and worryingly enough, they've been known to destroy cars through their stupidity (I saw the thread of Fiat Forums... Ouch!). If I want to save money, I tend to fix it myself... Where as with this car, if I want to rob myself of money and happiness, I fix it myself!
I've known French cars to be beyond shoddy, but like you say it's pretty much the luck of the draw
Phil, I have a pic of the terminal that's fitted to mine. It's exactly the same style as found on the control branch units.
Also, does anyone know if the Varta battery in the link would be ideal for my car? I have a slightly different one in the car already, but this is £15 cheaper than the one I have lol.

the best thing to do is actually walk away for a day or so, it always looks better that way.
I think nearly every single stilo owner has been in that position / frame of mind at one time or another, me more than a few times.
my first was a gearbox failure at just over 3 years old (well documented on ff if you want to look).
then its the usual odds and sods that get you down - rear bushes is another job that came to mind.
but were now on our 3rd stilo in our household, there is something special about the cars, ok they are niggly but its nice going accross the country without seeing another stilo as they are quiet rare in comparison to other superminis.
i just noticed your age, bloody hell your a lucky sod having a car like that at your age, i never got a deacent car until i was 26, before hand i had the typical rust buckets with engines that let go more often than not.
you have to be hands on with the stilo, and also take the attitude of - if its not broke dont fix it (maintence excluded) until you know the car inside out, it dosent take long to get used to the mechanics side on the 1.6 and 1.8.
ive covered approx 190k miles in stilos since i first purchased a brand new one, ive only ever been towed once because of breakdown (gearbox failure), and one more time due to a accident. the stilo has been for me a very reliable car, constant little things to take care of but always got me home which is what really matters. (now given myself the kiss of death aggg)
Look on the bright side its a dead easy fix and not overly expensive, tbh id rather have those sort of problems than the ones ive encountered in my stilo ownership life.
take care
roy
Never a dull moment owning a Stilo - For a tool box
I hear what your saying Roy and I do agree that there is definately something special about them. I know I'll kick myself later on if I sell it so I'm hanging fire until it gives me no choice. It would also be a shame to throw away all the work I've done, but I can't help feeling my car was built with disposable parts (Only with hefty price tags... IF you can get hold of the bits lol) and it doesn't make for enjoyable motoring. There's no fun in constantly keeping an eye on the head-up display, waiting for the next thing to go wrong. I caught it lucky with the door!
I'd like to be able to say my stilo is the highest spec Dynamic in the South West... But then again, I thought I'd never see a Stilo around me until I got back from Essex lol!
I wont bother charging the battery as it's pretty much shot with the damage on the negative led connector. I'll have to order the parts on monday... Gonna be £100 easyunless I can save money somewhere lol!
Still need to sort out my damn 2-tone paint job lol!![]()
