Hello and welcome to the club..really not advisable to try with out the cam locking tools have you read our resident cam belt change kings guide..
1.6 Timing belt change (rough guide)
International man of mystery
Wit, sarcasm, you get it all from me..

haha i wouldnt even dream of doing it with the timing kit.
I would be like me trying to plaster a wall! It will work at first but the truth that i can only fix I.T stuff will some come clean :P Thus destorying all your wonderful paint work in its wake
But thats just me :D
thanks for your help lads,

thankyou

hi mate, i have the timing kit if your in the basildon area (essex) then no problems.
i wont rent it, but will loan it out happily but will ask for the cost of the kit to be covered before hand obviously. the kit cost me £150 if you leave me the cash then i will return it when you return the kit.
I dont beileve in making a profit for something i needed.
ps it would be very difficult to do the job without the kit, actually it would be very easy to write of your engine, but with the kit and a bit of know how then the job is pretty easy.
with my kit ive also put a flywheel lock (although its not quiet right but does the job) and a deep socket (3/8 drive) to remove the fixed bearing.
let me know and i will dig it out.
the dots of paint wont work, i tried this as a back up and ended up scratching my head, the belt never lands on the same tooth even after 100s of revolutions, with mine i just cranked it over about 20 x then put the locking kit on, when it lined up ok i knew the job was done. rip 1.6 active..... :(
