    Default persistent electric fault indicators

I have a '52 Stilo S/W jtd which throws up a set persistent fault indicators - ABS, Airbag, power steering, loss of radio power, loss of heating power. These are the main ones. I have heard of this being a problem with Fiats, certainly my last 2 have had sim ilar probs. I've also heard that it can be cured by use of a higher powered battery but cant get anyone to advisse which batt would be suitable. Mine is a demonstrator model so has lots of electric gadget extras that perhaps the original batt. cant cope with. If I dont get it sorted it's going to fail it's MOT and Fiat will just say all the sensors and EPUs need replacing which I cant beleive is true.
    Any ideas anyone? please!

I'd recommend the Varta battery (Obviously diesel variant). Has it recently started doing it or has this been happening for a while now? Have you had any tests done on your current battery?

Hi , thanks for that It's been doing it on and off for 2 years, had a new batt about 18 months ago. Sometimes it's all clear for weeks and then it's all faults for weeks! Trouble is, if you ask for a batt for the stilo they only know about the one it says in their book and they're all diff physical sizes arent they?

Yeah the battery that I was offered which came straight from a reference book looked naff lol I prefer the bigger batteries myself lol, just looks like it's right for the job

This battery should be suffice, and being a 1.9 you'd do well to have a powerful battery. How powerful is the battery in your car at the moment? Not sure if the battery would cure all of the problems but having no experience with the JTD and never coming across the problems before, it's worth a go. It's a long shot but I'd check the condition of the battery terminals on the car (Particularly the live terminal) as if anything happens to these, you'll have trouble (As I found out).

Although if you replaced your battery 18 months ago and it's intermittent, I'd say it's something else?

Perhaps it's worth having the battery cells checked before moving onto another battery. If the one in the link above is that much more powerful than yours, then I'd recommend it. If, on the other hand, it's not much different, I would suspect it's not the battery in question. Worth checking all the same though.

Have you had a diagnostic test done on the car?

I would be tempted to check the earths as well. Also clean the multiway connectors near the battery, the D4 its called. they are in a prime location for getting wet every now and then.

You can check the earth by measuring the resistance between the car body/negative battery terminal and the item that is having issues, such as the radio etc.
