Shell V Power diesel
The Shell garage where I usually fill up when I'm at work has got in its first supplies of V power diesel. As I was running on vapours anyway I filled up on Friday night with 51 (count them - 51!!!) litres of V power at over a quid per litre :o
Bloody scary pricy stuff - but I guess this means I'll have a chance to see how the car likes it over a full tank - very full :o
I'm intrigued to see how it goes as the very same garage where I filled up also run an offer (usually once a month) of buy V power for the same price as regular petrol/diesel ;D Now suddenly running V power makes sense as I rarely fill up more than one and half times a month ;)
We'll see. Anyone else using diesel V power ??? Any likes/dislikes ???

Re: Shell V Power diesel
the shell stations near me now stock it. rearest one is about 3 miles away. i like the stuff, 103.9p yesturday. cheaper than ultimate diesel and only 3p more expensive than regular diesel too.

Re: Shell V Power diesel
The owner of most of the Shell garages in Aberdeen does a fuel price match with Asda - so Shell normal diesel is 96.9p/litre at the moment and the V power 5p/litre more :-\

Re: Shell V Power diesel
i've tried a few different diesel sources, and finally decided on sainsburys city diesel. its the only fuel that got my jtd running very smooth, if i ever have to use anything else, there is a noticable difference in smoothness and power. it maybe just me, but for now thats what im sticking to. i also use it with millers diesel sport 4 as recommended by ABZ, awsome stuff, smoother, faster, more eager to rev, and better mpg.
im thinking of starting to mix in some 100% biofuel (B12 i think) in a ratio of 80:20 (fossil:bio) as im reading very good things about using biofuel (not whats made from chipfat!, the proper stuff).
anyways, enough off topic, looking forward to your feedback on the/any differences of v power ;)

Interesting, i've always avoided supermarket fuel thinking it was inferior, always stuck to main brands, shell in particular.

Re: Shell V Power diesel
Sainsburys and Millers is my normal 'brew' ;)
But with Shell price matching to Asda......and that's cheaper than Sainsburys.... well, no brainer really ;D
I'm intrigued to add Millers to the V power and see what happens 8)

Re: Shell V Power diesel
A bit late in the day this one, but I did some research in response to a similar thread on FF a few months ago and posted it on the New Panda site (possibly). Essentially I filled up with BP Ultimate diesel and Sainsbury's regular City Diesel. I filled up alternatively, so therefore, 1 tank Sainsbury's, followed by a tankful of BP Ultimate (I think it's called). There were six tankfuls over about 2100 miles. It wasn't exactly scientific but noted the type of driving, e.g. country, motorway, leisurely or commuting. I also noted the trip computer mileage and also worked it out on a calculator. The result was that the cheaper Sainsbury's diesel provided significantly better fuel mileage than the premium BP fuel. The difference was typically 5-8 mpg better for the cheap supermarket type. What the long term engine benefits would be I couldn't say, but apart from the fuel consumption I didn't notice any differences.

Re: Shell V Power diesel
good info there cheers. you next step now would be standard sainsburys vs sainsburys + millers diesel sport 4. that should then give better mpg with a clean engine?

Re: Shell V Power diesel
I have reverted to supermarket fuel - the V power dissapointingly made no real appreciable difference and as " The Beard" says there was a significant drop in mpgs.... from an average of around 51mpg to 47. Possibly less diesel smoke witht he V power, but hard to be sure.
That said the car has been suffering a low down 'flutter' on occasion and (as I got it at the right price) I bought a Diesel D-tox additive which I ran through a tank of ordinary diesel...... no low down flutter any more and car quite 'chirpy' again ;)
Car will be getting a major service next month (cam belt etc) before the RR day but I will revert to basic diesel and Millers by then. As an aside I'm still waiting for a Forte diesel additive to arrive.... been ten days ::) .... as I've not tried it out yet.
