Default Revs increase when Changing gears

I was recently given a 2002 stilo which is a nice car to drive apart from the odd issues.
I have noticed the whenever i change gears the car revs automatically, at first i thought it was me then i made a point of removing my foot from the pedal and it still does it.
Can anyone tell me if that is a fault or is part of the design.
when this happens the revs normally jumps by about 1200 revs.

    Welcome to ClubFiat

At first I'd have said normal but 1200 rpm jump isn't. Should only be a few hundred from experience.

What makes me wonder is that it's a bit hit and Miss.
Somedays it will run fine and it won't give extra revs when changing gears and other days it will just randomly do i.

I checked mine earlier and it does it by about 50-100rpm. Needle only just jumps up slightly. What engine is your Stilo?

    The Engine is a 1.6.

This may be a silly question but where is the throttle position sensor located?

I haven't had the car for long but it seems that there are all sorts of issues popping up.

1.6 is one of the worst for this problem..have a look in the guide for throttle body clean proceedure and if that doesnt work then. have a look at this thread for throttle relean and try that one..

Stilo's use what is called flyby wire and dont have an excellorater cable and throttle position is taken care of by the ECU and it it does this by sending a signal to two sensors..one on the throttle pedal and the other on the throttle body..its like me saying .."Oi you you push that peddle so far down " to get the amount of revs you need..if the sensors or the trottle body are not recievingthe correct info then the system wont perform correctly..
