Hello. I have a problem with my gears on a Fiat Stilo 1.4 16v 2004 plate, which I hope someone can shed some light on before I take to a garage for further (expensive) investigation.
Basically, after ONLY long motorway journeys (anything over 60 / 70 miles) when the car has been in 6th gear for the majority of the way, I experience difficulty engaging into other gears.
First time, I changed down through the gears whilst going round a round about, only to come out of the round about and not be able to change into any higher gear (4th, 5th, 6th). Only after a half hour break on the side of the road, and a RAC man shedding no further light (as the gears would now engage) could i continue the journey. The same journey a couple of weeks later, I encountered strange noise from the gear box (as I have on other occasions since) at the end of the journey as if it was going to fall out of gear or was not properly engaged.
Any information on possible problem & solution would be greatly appreciated.

could be low gearbox oil or linkages need adjusting
