Smile Selespeed minor problem I hope!!!!

    Hi there,

I am hoping someone will be able to give me some advice. I have recently brought a 2003 Stilo Abarth with the selespeed gear box and I absolutely love it.

But there seems to be a problem with the automatic part of the selespeed. The car drives in manual mode perfectly and all gears can be selected, but when it is in automatic mode it appears that it will not change the gears going up but will do it automatically going down. I am hoping that it just needs resetting or worse case a sensor has gone. Any advice would be very much appreciated. If it does need resetting can I do it myself? I have downloaded the Fiat ECUScan programme.

    Many thanks in advance.

Might be worth checking the brake light switch and if the brake lights are always on, can cause issues with the system and isn't unheard of.

    Thumbs up Brake light switch......

Thanks for your advice Jon, spot on with your diagnosis!!! Brake lights are constantly on and only go off once you've lifted the brake pedal with your foot from underneath......and hey presto....we have gears again.
Going to order a new part from a well known online auction site.....and spend hours trying to bend my body in directions it isn't supposed to bend, trying to locate, remove and replace the faulty switch.

    Thanks again.

Ah glad it's a fairly simple problem :)

Where abouts in Suffolk are you located out of interest?

I am about 25 miles away from you down the A143 at Eye.

Yes hopefully the switch is going to do the trick. Going to attempt it in the morning.

Well finally change the switch and all is back to normal. All I can say is that I hope that it does not break again as it was an absolute nightmare. Took about an hour and a half - most of that time was trying to put the switch back - came out easy enough but a bugger to get back in. Thanks for all your advice.
